hi i am sailing to france on sunday and arriving in cherburg on monday morning
i plan to meet some friends who went last monday near the village of mielan.
can anyone recommend a place to stay near bordeaux as i think that will be far enough to go on the first day of a holiday,(even though because of work i am going a week later the the rest of the group)
thanks for any advice in advance:beerjug:

I have used a worn out small chateau just north of Bordeaux a few times. Not 5 star but a nice experiance and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. A lovely old girl runs the guest rooms and her son runs the vinyard. It's in a small village on the main 'A' road south. Here's a link:

All faded luxury and home made food.

Should be no problems getting a hotel near Bordeaux without pre booking. That way you are not tied down to stay for a fixed length of time.
Be aware that it is very hot here at the moment. We are less than 100 miles east of Bordeaux and this week temperatures have been around 30C with highs of 35C adn it it set to stay - Monday 29C, Tuesday 32C.
If you want to stray towards the Dordogne then let me know and we will get our bikes out and show you some nice roads, the only commitment we have is Tuesday morning.
