Then back home via the Newcastleton Road to Hawick and A7 to home,

Hermitage castle and if I`m not mistaken thats a small tea room in a caravan near Roberton

Hermitage is a place I've always wanted to go to some amount of history.

Spot on Dave!

A cracking run (and given my ailment this week I know all about runs!). The Newcastleton road road back is one of my favourites - twisties aplenty.

The castle is in an amazing state of preservation externally and the location is incredibly atmospheric. The warden told me there is very little actually known about it compared to other Scottish castles, Here's a reconstruction ...

Rik's place is actually two caravans and Dave was correct re the location. Would be a great place for a meet up during the Summer? Good grub too as long as you're not in a huge rush. Then again who is, in that neck of the woods?

Its Good run from Selkirk down the valley to ST Mary`s Loch then over the hill by the old Drovers Road, and onto Riks Tearoom. From there follow road to Roberton And on to Hawick ( the view after the uphill section of bends is stunning) At the A7 turn right and follow it to just before Langholm take a left turn at the cafe/Rugby Club and head over the hills to Newcastleton(cafe here for a cuppa if you did nt stop at Whitshiels) Then head left at Newcastleton and follow the road to Hawick good surface and some great sweeping corners. Till you get over the hills and head down towards Hawick.
You can include a small detour to take in Hermitage Castle and the drowning pool.

Other points of interest are :-
Memoral to Willaim Wallace in Selkirk
Hugh MacDiarmid Memorial (which featured on the cover of a Runrig album)
Hermitage chapel (ruins)
Ninestanes Rig where lord Soules of Hermitage castle is said to have been wrapped in lead and boiled, no human rights in those days
Shankend Viaduct
Not Forgetting Maiden Paps
