Where to visit?

Hi, me and my other half will be riding around north Scotland for a week, mid june. We will be based in Beauly, near Inverness We would appreciate any advice of routes, good scenic roads ect also any good places to visit to see wildlife animals ect. We understand most roads are scenic, but im after those hidden ones of the beaten track cheers for any advice

I've never been myself but have heard good reports of a wildlife park at Aviemore who have a wolf pack there.

Roads? without trying to sound flippant, stick a pin in the map of the NW of Scotland or Speyside and head for there. There aren't many bad routes. The obvious ones would be Applecross, the Isle of Skye and the Tomintoul to Blairgowrie road via Braemar.

i enjoyed the Grey cairns of caithness, absolute middle of no where

well worth it, supposedly haunted

but then the whole northern coast road is fabulous

If you're heading for the Far North on the A9, there's a lovely little road turning off about 7 miles South of Helmsdale. Posted 'Glen Loth'.

(EDIT) There's usually a lot of Red Deer up there, but when I took the photies on the following link - I didn't see one....

Blink and you'll miss the turning.

In the same neck of the woods, there's a good back road run between Rogart (on the Lairg road) over the hills in going down Strath Brora past the Clynelish distillery into Brora itself.

You want off-the-beaten-track....?

Into Ardnamurchan, out to the Lighthouse at the Point, back to Kilchoan, get the ferry across to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and head West around Gribun and/or South to the Ross of Mull. Cross back onto the mainland on the Fishnish to Lochaline Ferry and ride up to Ardgour where you can either take the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe to Lochaber and thence to Fort William or head through Ardgour to Loch Eil and then take a right on the A830 into Fort William and a wee refreshment courtesy of mine host GC at The Lochy.
