Possibly hiring one of these in the USA in May. Can someone tell me where the standard accessory socket is fitted please? Can't find any mention on the BMW website.
Also, I heard that it can turn itself off whilst in use. What's the trick to keeping it on?
Thanks.

Top of left leg as sitting on the bike, use less than 5 amps from it.

Where you going to be using it?

Thanks for that. Do you mean just under and infront of the seat? I'm only wanting to plug my GPS into it.

I'm planning from LA, go North through the hilly bits to Seattle and then back to LA along the Pacific coast highway. 11 days all in.

Howard!, and after what you said about beemers!:mmmm
Looks like a good trip

It's a software issue, apparently. I think the system is supposed to recognise that there is something there drawing current, and decide to leave it switched on.

Mine was awful (use it for GPS like what you're planning) and behaved apparently randomly for a while. It then had a software update at service time, and now is much better but sometimes turns itself off after around 30 seconds. Just long enough to get your gloves on and get moving before you have to stop again. :spitfire However, I find that switching ignition off and then straight back on again straight away - not always requiring a stop - does the trick.

I also find it happens less if I have the GPS unit on and in the holder before switching on the ignition. However, I haven't done anything scientific to prove this - just a general impression.

I tryed using mine for my Garmin and I couldn't get any power from it. It could be because a have 276C, that has a battery.

My heated vest, which is not a BMW. Works fine on it.

Tell you what, Howie, instead of getting a BMW and then inevitably slating it, why not try a KTM Adventure instead? I've just bought one and it's great.

Mind, it would spoil your plan to annoy the gentle BMW caps on this site and we know how you enjoy that.

Mind, if you do go and get a Triumph, make sure there's a backup to hand throught - without one Bike mag found they can't do a test!

That's VERY nice idea but I'm limited to what the hire company have got. It's either a Harley or BMW or KLR650 uurrrggh! I am surprised that they don't have a Buell Ulysses but there you go. Obviously the GS12 is closest to my Tiger for speed and comfort etc. :tears

Don't understand your last paragraph. Mine's got over 40K up with no probs. And, judging from this forum, the GS12 has more problems than the Tigers ever had. :hide

Thanks to all for the replies.

Our bikes don't have more problems than other one, only as we use ours more we notice the niggles and try to fix them. I understand the only true fix for a Triumph is to buy a GS :D :D

BTW where is the standard power socket on a Tiger? :nenau

As the Tiger's so much more reliable I'd have thought they'd hire them instead of GS's;) Are you taking a back up van?:P

It sounds as if you don't have the latest software upgrade. My GPS started to do the switching itself off thing after one particular upgrade but following the most recent one for which I really had to pester the dealer it's fine. It now stays on as required.
