Which broadband/phone

Ive been on Virgin (telewest) since they started but soon I am moving to a non-cable area.

I would like to know if anyone knows the best deal, or multiple deals (thru experience?) that I should look for. This is what I would like: -

Fast broadband, min 40 gig month download or unlimited.

Phone to call land lines only with talk evenings and weekends including 08 numbers.

I dont want sky tv or anything like that but I MUST have eurosport

Can anyone reccomend me anything.

I don't know anything about eurosport or how to get it, but for broadband and phone the options that are available to you will depend on your location.

Put the postcode of where you are going to into this site http://www2.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and you will see what, if any services are on offer from anyone other than BT.

If 21CN WBC is marked with a red cross, there might be some information at the bottom of the page about a potential upgrade date, if all the LLU stuff on the right is marked with a red cross, than the top BT deal for broadband and phone is the only one worth going for IMHO.

If Pipex is a option avoid like the plague!!!!!!!!!

Tech dept and customer care complete waste of time.

Not much of a choice, were it me I'd be comparing O2, Be and BT offerings, all the others with an LLU have been the recipients of considerable criticism for their customer services.

If you are an O2 mobile customer you can get quite a decent deal I believe.

This seemingly is a very complicated matter. Especially for the "helplines" (lol) of the different providers because I dont have my virgin number connected to a BT line yet.

I have to go to the post office the day I move and get my phone line made live on a rolling 30 day contract. They will then be able to port my old number over to the BT line. NONE of the other providers I rang could use my old number.

Once I am on a rolling 30 day contract then I can take advantage of the 3rd party bundle offers.

If I get BT to connect me, I then automatically go on a 1 year contract and that stuffs all plans of reduced price bundles.
BT dont tell you this when you ask them. (in fact its virtually impossible to phone BT from a non BT phone line. You wanna try and ring them from their website. Impossible. I am still trying after 3 hours to get a reply in the daft chat box lol. Wankers

Whichever way I choose, I am going to be without broadband for up to a month. This is shit, really shit in this day and age.

Surely lots of people move house now and again

You can get Virgin just not via fibre optic. You can get Virgin anywhere in the country via a normal phone line and ADSL just like any of the other offerings. Thats if you wanted to stick to them but it wont be as fast or as reliable over ADSL but it wont be any worse than anybody else. Personally I am about to leave them and go to SKY broadband but I already have their TV. I can upgrade to SKY HD get broadband unlimited, phone with free calls and still save a minimum of £20 a month over having the separate Virgin internet and phone.

Like you, I moved from a cable area to a non-cable area. I didn't want any fancy phone package as I get all the mins I need from my mobile, so I opted for the basic landline package with BT.

At the time NTL/Virgin were offering a rolling month contract on broadband so I stuck with them initially, over the BT line. Eventually I get fed up with their slow service at peak times and went elsewhere.

So, for you I suggest you bite the bullet and get a BT landline and pay for the basic package. You can then buy a call plan from another provider if you think that BT's top-ups are expensive. Bear in mind that BT will give you calls to 0845 & 0870 numbers as part of your included minutes.

Having a BT line gives you more choice of internet services. I see from samknows that you have O2/Be available on LLU. Check the forums at https://www.bethere.co.uk/web/beportal/homepage for mention of your area. If no problems are reported then go with them. O2 & Be are owned by the same parent so it is just a case of branding and pricing that needs to be considered. As shugie says, O2 mobile customers get reduced rates. If you create an account at http://www.quidco.com/ you can get a decent cashback bribe.

Cunning plan for you, O2 website says the postcode is in an area of good reception. To get going when you move, buy a Pay as you go USB dongle for your computer and stick some credit on it. Then you have broadband, albeit not terribly fast, to be going on with, giving you time to work out who to buy your landline broadband from. I don't think Pay as you go gives you the cheap landline broadband, although the "normal" O2 price does not seem to shabby anyway, given the speed on offer.

Thanks shugie. I had thought of this as I have a 3g mobile contract and can use that as a modem for my netbook.
That will do till I get a post office connection then shop around.
Our lass is insisting on sky, purely for catch upon demand I may look at a sky bundle.

I use Plusnet for line rental (standard BT line) and calls (works out cheaper than BT line rental & call Package) and 02 Broadband which I get for £7.50.

Very happy with both companies and both are local support centres. Changed to them following advice from moneysavinexpert.com so probably worth checking out their latest recommendations.
