Which other BM models use the same gearbox as the 1150GS?

I'm looking for a s/h gearbox as a spare (used to have one for my airhead GS which I commuted on & was glad I did) & have seen the one below. It looks very much like a GS casing for a 6sp 1150 but what else could it be from & could the ratios differ?

gearbox

Paul,I was bidding on this on ebay and emailed the guy it went for £41,but it did have the same number on the casing as the one I replaced on a mates 1150,but I was not sure wether that was the part number for that part of the casing or the whole gearbox!!.It had a crack were the number was stamped he seemed a bit vague about it's history so I bottled out at £20.Andy

Hmmmm........

It went for £41 to me & I had asked if the casing was cracked or broken anywhere. Got a good, quick reply to say that it was OK. Worth a flutter at that price, just for the innards.

I've sent the money by recorded delivery to an address in Carlisle so it'll be easy to go up, there if necessary. It's about an hour away from Preston.

We'll see what happens.

Got home from work & Royal Mail have left a card asking me to go & collect a parcel from the local sorting office. £12, I paid to get that gearbox delivered & they leave a card 'cos "it's too big to fit through your letterbox" !!!!!!!?????

:tosser

I would imagine if the numbers match then they will be identical. Mick Barr, in Leicester, is the man for BM gearboxes. Give him a call if you need any info, My 1100 gearbox cost just over £200 for a complete rebuild (new shafts etc) so if anything is wrong with the box it shouldn't cost a fortune to put right.

Oooohhhh Andy, you're gonna be really p****d with me.......;)

I went & collected the 'box this morning & gave it a good look over. It's a GS, alright - 6sp. All bearings & seals are in good order, with no lateral/axial play at all. The input & output splines are all fine. All the threads for swingarm & footrest mounts are good & the gearchange is nice & sweet. It's just missing the fill & drain plugs but, looking around inside there seems to be naff all wear on the bits that can be seen. It even has the gear position indicator switch attached (but no clutch slave cylinder).

I am one seriously happy bunny......... sorry mate.

PS: The "crack" you saw was just a scratch in the paintwork & the vendor was a Mrs Cochrane so that may explain the vagueness in the replies you got.
