Arai RX7 or Shoei X-Spirit??

Currently have a BMW System 5 but that's now totalled. Not to pushed about the price as I reckon keeping my brains in between my ears is worth spending a few quid on.

Anyone have any experience of these lids or any advice??

Cheers

Just picked myself up one of these for my new steed - the quality is in another dimension to other lids around :bow

obviously depends on what fits best so you'd need to try first obviously. I've both had Arai & Shoei so I'm not convinced you're either one or the other :nenau

I agree with Trev, ive owned both Shoei and Arai and both fitted great. I think the problem is people get really used the the lid they have owned then try a new one on and its never as comfortable as the old one. But if you dont mind spending the dosh then get to a dealer who sells all the best makes and take your time and get what suits you.

im lucky tho, ive a shoari head:augie

Can recommend the Arai Astro-R. Light, comfy lid with good vents.

I have both in use at present..............

Unless it is proven that the Arai is safer than the Shoei - then I would say that the X-Spirit is the better helmet on the following (not in any order of importance):

1) Visor is cheaper to purchase.
2) Visor release mechanism is better
3) Helmet is quieter
4) Entire lining is removable/washable (arai rear apron is not removable)
5) X-Spirit is about 150grm lighter than the RX-7
6) Helmet is more aerodynamic - less buffeting when turning your head
7) Visor doesn't mist up as easily as the RX-7

RX-7 scores on the following:

1) Better ventilation than X-Spirit
2) Doesn't create a vortex behind the chin bar that "hoovers up" flies.

you forgot about the Shoei colour schemes being crap :D

If a race-rep RX-7 or X-Spirit isn't justifiable - you could do a lot worse than the series below each of the above.......

Shoei XR-1000

Arai Quantum

(At least I think that is the series below)

Several mags reckon the Quantum makes a better road lid than the RX-7 :nenau

Has the Viper GT replaced the Quantum ?

I quite like the look of this Viper but need to have a try on :

Bump,ref the Viper GT.

I need a new lid but can't decide between XR1000 and Viper GT.

Both fit ok,but obvioulsy can't try them out on the road.

People say that the equivalent Shoei is lighter than Arai, but I can't find any weights published for Arai at all.

Both the X spirit and XR1000 weigh 1330g in a size M.But what about the Viper GT ?

After a try on today, bought a new Shoei X Spirit as it was by far the best fit for me.

'Old' helmets now for sale here.

As an alternative ...

... I've just got one of these little beauties  Incredibly light, although I would agree with the reviewers who say the vents are difficult to use with gloves :nenau
