I am off for three weeks off road in Morocco on april 1st (not a joke :nono ) and wondered what break pads will last longest in the sandy environment. Just the normal BMW ones, sintered, other options.
Is it likely that my breakpads wear out during three weeks off road, i.e. should I take spare break pads?

Tnx for your input all

Cheers

break pads.

Try brake pads they work better!
gs dave (still crashbarless. sob).

I would just stick a new set in of any good quality, they should easy last the distance. You will not be barking very hard in sand ! I have Ferodo Platinum at the moment and done 10 k on them - still lots left on them, no off road though.

Cheers

I sincerely doubt it sir! Once off road you probably won't use the front brakes at all! Unless you are a 100mph offroad master and heavy on the brakes? I would go for bmw parts myself, but that's just me :thumb

The brake pads will more than last your trip.

But 1150s occasionally suffer excessive rear pad wear even if they are hardly being used, there were many theories as to why this occured but even well maintained bikes have this problem at times so I always carry spare rears.

And as other have pointed out it is unlikey you will be using the brakes very much off road on a GS!

I use the front brakes all the time when off roading.
Front for stopping, slowing down.
Rear for bike control/emergency stops(togehter with front)/showing off (lots of dust :D ).

Just a set of rear pads will do then.
