Which is the better 1200...?

I don't know how desperate you are for a BM you are but what about a cheap hack and hanging on untill December for a GS? The closer the Christmas you get the better the deals as a rule.
Re finance, have you looked at a loan from Aliance and leicester? I know it's not as good as interest free but the money saved on a private deal could be more than the interest over the loan term. Plus you own the bike outright :nenau
 
£6275 - £200 (alarm) - £200 (service) - £65 (new tax & mot) - £350 BMW warranty - £200 for luggage I'd sell.

£5,200ish - only £200 ish more than a private sale. A £5k 1200 usually doesn't come with spoked wheels.

And I might be able to get 0%, so my extra money earns 6% in the ISA.

So what am I waiting for exactly? How low do you think the 1200's are going to drop in the following months?

The Triumph Scrambler doesn't look like it's worth anything above 3k new.

I think he made up his mind before posting and was just hoping for some reassurance. He has chosen to ignore all the good advice, which is of course his choice.

Snoopy, there is a lot of good sound advice on this thread.




But at the end of the day all that matters is what you think. If it's the bike and spec you want at a price you are happy to pay, so what if it's not the best deal in the world? If it makes you happy go for it. You only get one crack at life. Make the most of it.
 
I haven't made up my mind but most of the comments are coming without reasoning. If you think the price is going to plummet in December try backing that up with some sort of figure. I've never seen a 1200 go for less than 5k private. Are we expecting 4k, 3k or what? :nenau

I'm also not interested in comments from regular whinging 1150GSA owners who will give a negative response no matter what bloody 1200 I go for.

I agree 6.2k is not good value for a 4yr old bike, but then there's nothing like a 1200GS and it's 4k cheaper than a new one.

I'm getting a 1200GS like it or not Trippy. Just give guidance on whether this one is a decent model, if not tell me what I can expect in a couple months. I can hang on for sure and at that point I should be able to buy private, especially if Norwich Union have stopped fannying around.

Thought about going for the "select option" where you defer the fianl payment effectively. As an example 1200 GSA at about £11k with a £2500 deposit = 36 payments of £200 and a final payment around £5000. Maybe not exact numbers but you do get 2 years warranty and EU breakdown, a brand new bike etc etc all for £4k extra.

Maybe too much, but might be worth a look?

Have a good look around Snoopy, the end of the ride season is coming and all those folks who have had a crap summer on the bike (weatherwise) will no doubt be getting rid...

I did'nt think 30k miles was that many, it's a 1.2 litre engine! its just about loose! why are Brit's so hung up on miles? if it's been serviced and has all the stamps in the book then i really dont see an issue, 06 with 3 owners...hmmm, not unusual for a bike though is it...really? people change them like clothes! ask a few more questions, the old rule is, if in doubt walk away, the bike you want is out there.

The 04 bike does look a little long on the money though fella, better bikes than that to be had, it's nearly five years old! have a good scout around on Autotrader, see whats about.

It's a good idea but BMW have stopped offering Select on bikes older than 2yr old. It's a recent change says the dealer.

have you seen the " Luck" Snoopy has had with bikes... he's broke or fecked up bikes in a few thousand miles that others have managed to get round the world on:D.... so a bike relatively more susceptible to falures that can leave you high and dry is just what he doesn't need....
But he's a big boy it's his decision what to buy.. and he's learning from his past mistakes.... But Very slowly and very expensively:D

Mickys old bike looked the best suited for your needs IMO.... but it went tits up too:(
 
FFS Snoops - I've said it before in another thread, I know you think you know it all but listen to the guys on here, there's a lot of hard earned experiance and wisdom on here - they can't all be wrong surely :nenau

Ah usual ukgser sentiments shining though I see. If anyone can tell me prices are going to drop to 4k this December then great I'll wait. Otherwise it's not much more than a private deal.

Lots of 1200 owners selling but they all hang on - most don't need the money that much.

Neither dealer has got back to me. It appears I've asked too many questions about replacements under warranty (in both cases they've said they'll consult the computer and get back to me).

6.2 does seem a bit steep for a 4 year old one. Agree with you about the wire wheels. Essential.

I've seen 2 year old ones at 6,500 complete with wire wheels recently (plus mine was sold on at 6,500 so I'm told) , but heres a comparison on at 6,800.
