I have ADSL2+ and need a broadband router with 4 Ethernet ports, firewall and N-band wireless. I've been using a Billion BiPac 7800n router, but today it died, it's about 3 years old and worked pretty well until it's sudden demise.

What is currently the best model on the market?, which makes are better than others and which to avoid............or do I just buy another Billion BiPac 7800n? :nenau

when i saw the thread title, i was going to suggest exactly the router you already have. great bits of kit which can be tweaked to gain a bit more speed on ADSL connections :)

i think they may have a tendency for the wi-fi to die after a bit, but i'm actually still using mine in conjunction with a BT modem with fibre.

in the olden days when I had ADSL in Wales, my ISP, Be*, provided a perfectly serviceable router that did exactly as you describe. Fully configurable and a helpful forum on their website to make changing settings easier for port forwarding etc. Before that, Virgin provided a free Netgear unit.

Can't you get a decent freebie from your ISP?

My ISP is Xilo, they have been pretty good, rarely get a slow day or outage, best customer care I've found, very prompt,...... however the package I'm on doesn't include a router, which was fine as I then had a working Billion one.:blast
