Which single?

Being a complete novice I have no right to comment, but here goes. I reckon a cracking bike for trail riding is a KTM 400EXC, I had one and thought it was brilliant. Felt very manageable and light. Swapped it from a 450EX and couldn,t believe the difference, I reckon the 450 was continuosly plotting to kill me. Had a DRZ400 which was also brilliant but felt heavy compared to KTM.

Now have a X Challenge, never been off road but is a brilliant bike on the road, reckon be a bit of a handful off road especially the weight. Recently did some trail riding over in spain with Trailblazers (well recommneded) and they gave me a 2008 WR450F which was amazingly very easy to ride but the trails were quite easy. Jumped on the X challenge when I got home and it felt a tank!!

yep when's good for you? I am away tomorrow otherwise have a fairly flexible schedule. Sainsburys day/evening up til 7, they do an okay cup of coffee.

of course I will, I went and had a ride around on Sunday but that was organised on the KTM forum but I am still waiting with great anticipation for a ride with the peak district GS crew, yourself, Vincent et al. I just need a bash plate though, the stuff I was on the other day had me a bit concerned for my crank case.

Dunno really, 500 squid? I've had quotes of 250 to do the rebuild work, so 750 for a good runner with new piston / rings / bore should be about right. Couple of caveats; it's not got a kick-start, the flyscreen is cracked, and it has a humungous aftermarket Acerbis tank. Apart from that she's sound. :D

Muppix, I'll keep your offer in mind whilst I'm figuring out which way to go. The big tank sounds like a plus.

Only if you manage to sell fuel to somebody who's run out.

In all honesty it's a bit of a liability because it restricts your ability to get forward on the seat and extend your inside leg on a tight turn, something you should be doing if you ride "by the book". Yamaha want silly money for the original metal tank though, so the previous owner fitted the Acerbis one when the OEM rusted through.

I am interested to know which you think would be the most reliable, easiest to work on, cheapest to run, fun to ride etc. etc
