If you have wilbers on your r1150 gsa.................where did you fit your preload tensioner reservoir, mine has come so that it fixes near the rear footrest and I was hoping it would fit in the same place as the bmw reservoir?

You can see the pic below the mount the rear preload reservoir has come with

Same as you...and even then it was a tight fit and I've never been happy with it.

The pipe could do with being 6 inches longer could'nt it :(

I'm needing to get a new rear shock soon, and am thinking of Wilbers ...is there not an option to order with a longer pipe ? After all , they do brag that they are all made "to order", and individually to suit bike /person's weight/ riding style etc. I hate having to either put things in unsuitable position, or stretch things, all for the sake of a few inches of what can't be very expensive, tubing ??!

could you not put it on this area instead roger? I can feel a nice fabrication of an "L" aluminium bracket in the offing?????? so it can be sited in the original mounting position

The Ohlins shock fo the 1150 GSA comes with a mounting plate to fit the adjuster to the original mounting point so could be worth checking if anyone has a close up picture.

The hose supplied from memory is long enough to mount the adjuster on the OE point if you had a bracket.

As far as mounting it on the front frame tub I found that put a strain on the hose and made it awkward to get to the adjuster, in the position its fitted currently its easily accessible and the hose is not in the way.

But we're talking WILBERS here -my pal has an Ohlins on his 1200, and yes, that mounts in the OE position, but it would appear not the Wilbers.:(

The reference to the Ohlins installation was because they have a bracket to mount to the 1150 OE mounting point and seeing one could provide an idea for a bracket.

As far as an Ohlins on a 1200 goes it munts it's remote pre-load adjuster on the frame tube on the left side, the 1200 comes with an integral pre-load adjuster not a remote like the 1150 so there is in fact no OE mounting point on the bike.

Absolutely none but it would have been nice to site it at the same place my old reservoir was sited.

Will it not be partially obstructed by Metal Panniers in the non-OE position ? Just a thought, as I have 'ARD cases fitted, and will, I hope, be fitting a Wilbers sooner or later .

I think you are correct in that assumption which is why im going to fabricate a nice little bracket so I can mount it in the same place as my oem reservoir, will post a pic when done

I'd say a few people would be interested if you fancied doing a production run on those brackets. I would anyway.

The Wilbers supplied for my standard 1150GS did have a bracket supplied to utilise the original mounting point but left the adjuster sticking out far enough to be annoying when you have the balls of your feet on the pegs, it kept vibrating against my heel.

Thunder... I'm curious - why did you choose to fit the adjuster on the opposite side to that which Wilbers show in the instructions? or are they different for the GSA?

btw I dont see why the fact its partially obscured by the panniers should be a problem.. it doesn't have 'index markings' nor does it 'click' like the OE Showa... and its not like fiddling with it is something you need do often.

Tony

I did not even look at the instructions and fitted the shock with the feed for the remote adjuster on the same side as the original.

Makes know difference which side as far as I'm aware just as long as it's the right way up :D

mmmm I'm not convinced. I've found from bitter experience its wise to follow instuctions from the manufacturer.. law of unforseen consequences and all that. never mind eh.

I've only got pics of the one that broke BikerB but I'll try and find a minute to take a pic of the new one in place tomorrow, (bikes locked away at work as I needed to come home in the car tonight:()
