Who said 1200 models corrode and can't do the miles .......

So how many FPC's,final drive seals & clutches in 98K Neil ?

The owner also owns a very nice CBX1000, with huge miles on the clock. In fact he owns a few interesting bikes, all bought new and all with huge mileages. :bow

Just after the picture was taken he was off on the 1200 GS for a 5k mile ride around europe, so i expect it has now crossed the 100K mile mark. .
:clap

Mine just shy of 70K miles

Nice. Where did you get the beaded seat cover from please?

Talking to a powder coaters this morning. They said BMW use lots of the stuff but perhaps don't zinc passivate the steel before coating.
Personally I think my frame at least was painted. It was too easy to remove when last year I rubbed it down "de-rusted" (some hope) and zinc painted what I could get at.

Beadrider.com is the manufacturer but I bought mine used on IBMWR.com site in America.

I even made some from automobile beaded seats for motorcycles.

The Mrs. Stays home...! She's not into the "He Man" traveling thing.
Her idea is Hotel/Motel...."No sense of Adventure"....:nenau
But then again....,it is nice once in a while to wake next to a lady instead of a helmet, tank bag and buggie jacket....!:manny

That's UK road salt. It makes sea water look benign.

Mine has the rusty frame but not pitted like that. Front cover isn't fab but again not even close the pix above. Try soda blasting the alloy and leave it unpainted. The frame will have to be dipped, blasted, zinc passivated and powder coated.

I've been riding bikes old and new since the mid 70's. Nothing I've ever owned has corroded as quickly as this GS.

That's just neglect

+1 Neglect and mismanagement

Neglect? Mine's a 2005 and has been parked outdoors all its life, ridden almost daily through every winter (and summer and spring and autumn) since purchase and is rarely washed and has no frame rusting like that

So do tell how any 'neglect' has caused that ?

Okay. Let's call it abuse then?
