Today started ok. I started the trusty 2002 1150 to check the battery was ok and left it running in workshop. Then it all went wrong ! Got a bit side tracked and forgot about it. 3 hours later remembered. Found the bike sitting in a pool of oil not running the oil level window has melted and got blown out and was 10 ft away even the plastic nut covers no front swing arm fell out with the heat . So need to get bike up and running for dragon rally next weekend.popped over to bmw got a new oil window fitted that changed oil filter as I had one filled it up with oil still had quite a bit in it .Got it cranking over now. But no spark ! Ignition on fuel pump runs then stops as normal,put in gear turn engine with back wheel nothing no fuel pump so I'm thinking it has fried the hall sensor.Any ideas please .and quick

Sorry to hear your fookup mate.hope it all turns out ok.must be one of those days.i did a simple oil change on my audi.unfortunately it all went tits up when I drove off with the jack still proping the one wheel up.shit happens hey.

It would be astounding if that is the one and only fault. I'd start by removing the tank and checking all the wiring that runs on or around the engine.

It does sound as though the HES is stuffed though.

He may have killed a perfectly innocent and lovable 1150 without a tipple, I dread to think the result of letting him tipple first.

Yep I have had tank off all loom looks ok . Yes I can see lots more problems. I think I'll order the hall sensor see if I can get it running if not it will plan B get the old airhead out

This is how I found bike don't look to good does it you can see where oil has sprayed out of the oil level window and run out of back of bash plate

...hopefully the HES thing overheated and killed the engine electronically before the lack of oil did.

I'm sure it didn't run for the full 3 hrs tho. You will be amazed how quickly they warm up.

2009 - I got back to mine after 15 mins idling and found her still running....just. No damage, the oil sight glass had started melting but no long term damage - now she's on 90k

Steptoe, or someone a few years ago now ( If I remember correctly) had a discussion & a few photos showing similar damage to yours and apart from replacing the spyglass and HES no further major damage was reported.
Hopefully you will experience similar.

Yeah take off the lower crank pulley you will probably find the HES or the cable melted

I had to go recover a customers bike who did this when I worked at the dealers

Fit new Hall sensors and change the oil (Its cooked!!) and another filter it should be fine

It won't have made it to 3 hours

Customers bike got 10,000 plus miles on it now and doesn;t burn a drop of oil ????

Not a recommended method of cutting oil consumption!

That's the 2nd one reported on here in the last couple of months... There are simpler ways of keeping tabs on the battery... They are aircooled and overheat far quicker than people expect even if they don't forget about it...

Bike All stripped down and waiting for the new HES to come in at the dealers tomorrow then i will know if she lives again or time to get the airhead out fingers crossed
