I only had my last GSA for 900 ish miles but it seemed awfully fond of recording a cumulative mpg of 47.8

My latest GSA showed 51.3 on the 50 mile journey home but now, at 150 miles, it's showing exactly 47.8

Either my riding style is identical, it's a massive coincidence or there is a level beneath which the bike won't own up!

Hardly a life changing query but I am VERY curious

Let's see what happens to the rest of the tankful.....:nenau

You are resetting it aren't you, after 900 miles its goner be pretty set in its ways

Higher mileage may give you a more accurate result?

Also try the trip meter and fill up/maths method.

:rob

ive never had a BMW that reads accurate. it's just a little toy really, as said trip meter and calculate for accurate results.

Oh and your lucky my new GSA is reading 44.8 and thats even to much as im only getting 42 :eek

I'm seeing a pattern here.

After a reset mine settled at 51.3 for two tank fulls, and now has been 48.7 for ages.
I need another reset me thinks.

Oddly, the A3 has been readin 47.8 for ages.

reset ?? how do you do that ?:blast

With the ignition on (doesn't matter if the bike is stationary or being ridden) use the Info button to bring up the mpg display on screen, then press and hold the button for a few seconds until the displayed figure resets.

If you bring up the display as you ride and press and hold the button down it will display your current consumpion and the numbers change as you speedup slow down.

I am just gonna have to try that tomorrow, though better do it on the relatively safe A3 stretch, rather than the cross country part of my commute.

If I remember correctly it only regesters certain no's 44.5 45.7 and so on I sold my gsa in 2010 and still miss it. My rt is probley more suitable for my comute. JJH

Ted, do you only get the spot MPG for a mile or so after setting to Zero. IE the system is still calculating, otherwise I had no idea the facility was available.

I'm pretty sure I reset mine when moving, last time, so am a bit dubious that it will work.

Still, I'm gonna the it a go.

The mpg is cumulative so a reset will calculate the spot rate for a second or so and will be very sensitive for the next x miles to changes in consumption. It shows just how much fuel it chews through when cold or on a fast blast with panniers! After that the average will naturally tend to settle down.

I've found the computer to be consistent if not accurate. My current GSA is the most out being optimistic by 2-3 mpg.

The reason for the funny figures is it is converting from l/100km (5.5l/100km = 51.3mpg).

@LBL: That's about the consumption my new one returned (even worse on the first couple of tanks). But it improved significantly as it got run in. Now it's around 48+mpg (real); 51 indicated.

my GSA is particularly fond of 48.7 too :)

My GS (not GSA) is on 48.7 too. That's the average since I got it 2,500 miles ago. The actual average based on fuel in/miles out is 47.2mpg so it's slightly optimistic.

Interesting collection of replies - I actually reset after every tankful (and calculate using the fuel vouchers)

I'm not taking much notice of consumption for at least 6,000 miles but I shall be running without the panniers for most of the time, I believe this can make up to 10% difference.

I must say though, these are truly fantastic bikes -it's no wonder they sell so many of them!
