Why buy a 1200GSA?

As the man said before "someone will come on about being on their 4th F/D".
Well here I am, but although it's a right royal pain in the rear, I still haven't found anything that I'd want to swap it in for.
I've owned around 60 bikes of all sizes, styles, and to date this is my longest owned with the most miles covered. And yes i still return from every ride with a grin.
White 06 GSA 29,000. 4th F/D but still grinning.

That's one out of how many? :augie

FWIW I've got an 08 GSA, 35k miles ride it (almost) every day come rain or shine, done Europe, rode down to the Gambia, ridden in minus 20C and plus 44C thrashed it, dropped it and it just seems to get better. So far, I've had no issues (touch wood) apart from the recent precautionary recall for the brake pipe, which I haven't responded to as I can't be arsed going into the dealer's until the next service.

Personally I'd be hard pressed for a bike I like better.

I'm confused - are you saying it's a bad decision that he doesn't want one... or a good one? :blast

Bad decision that changing bike is higher on the agenda than just riding the one he owns:D

Now I'm confused:blast

Lol

You're right - get on and enjoy what you have till you break it or want to do stuff it's not really up to doing :rob

The thing is the 1150's are slowly fading away, so it wont be long now before one doesn't have the choice if one wants to stay with the GS brand.

Just nipped out at lunchtime and did 80miles on my 2010GSA 30 year special and feck me its a brilliant bike:D So much pulling power and smooth as a smooth thing.Taut and beautifull in the corners.Picked up an AKRO System for my T Max strapped it on the back then a blast back to work.It really is the best bike I have ever owned and I've only had it a week:thumb2:thumb2

..or get the 1200 and keep both :D :thumb2

As someone who keeps buying bikes to do things my current bikes don't do and not selling the existing ones... I wholeheartedly agree :thumb2

I took a 2010 1200GS for a test ride last weekend, after pressure from the pretty lady in the dealers.

Its a fine bike, faster than my 1150, smoother and makes a nice noise.

But I don't feel inclined to change - indeed, if they offered me a new 1200 as a straiight swap for my 1150SE (2005/50K km), I'd say no. I've got my bike just how I like it, I know where its been and we've bonded.

They're both GSs, but they are very different bikes.

.. If there was really that many failures, why are people still buying them ?????
Possibly because they're not yet aware of potential problems - and won't be aware of them till it's too late. :nenau

I have to concur with the above having recently traded in my 2008 GSA for a 2010 model (last week). It's a completely different beast, and much for the better (so far...). Everything from engine response, power, ride quality, gearbox etc seems much improved. Agreed, it is a new bike, so everything is nice and tight presently, but that can't be the only reason it feels so much better than my previous steed. :thumb2

Bad start to the morning... was seriously thinking about chopping in my 1150GSA for the 12...
How many threads are there now about flaming final drive failures..?

All I can think to myself when thinking about changing is NOOOOOOOO.

I worried about the FD on mine (etc), but I can't help but feel I should get back into a happy place with a different brand that I just dont have this type of apparantly extraordinarily show stopping poor quality issue.

Some of the sufferings a considerable number of fellow GSERS are experiencing just doesnt seem right and that's just the people on this forum...

Am I just a victim of forum doom and gloom, bad news travels faster than good etc??

:(
Traded my 1150Gs in for a 1200GSA (bought from this site) in early June. Just done a trip round the Pyrenees (mileage on the GSA has gone from 7k to well over 10k in a month). No problems at all and love the GSA - though it doesn't outperform my old catalyst free 1150GS by much.
PS Just before the trip went to 'Lind' in Norwich who agreed the front discs were warped and replaced them there and then in warranty without any hassle. Great dealer.

I've had a GSA most unreliable bike I've ever owned. Loved it but ffs the pish quality and depreciation.
Got a Katoom light years ahead but then GSA people say it's too off road orientaed.
Just bought a Flabbyadero which is streets ahead as a road bike biased trail bike.

Mind you my flabbyadero will probably do more miles off road than the vast majority of GS's on here.

I can wreck it twice for the price of a GSA :bounce1

Things have moved along in the 1200 world with the 2010 model........for the better of course :thumb

Yep...................the 2010 is reputedly slower than the 2006-2009 models..........it seems:augie

As for reliability.................they've sent it out with an incorrectly set up cam sensor, that needs shimming up by the dealer techs, with a special tool:blast

Maybe nothing else will go wrong:rolleyes:

That said................I really liked the 2010 RT1200...............a very nice machine.........:thumb2

Yes - a VERY predictable contribution - but my 2010 model is quicker than my 2008 model ...... so (my) personal experience doesn't bear out the first part of your statement. :nenau

As for your other point I simply don't know. :aidan
