Went for a ride around the Trough and Forest of Bowland.

How come no one had mentioned that area? Smashing little day ride out.

If we keep it quiet, then it'll stay quiet :)

Was out doing a small loop on Sunday through Cross of Greet to Bowland Kotts, did about 60 miles and only saw two other bikes, nice :)

aye it's a lovely spot, I've been riding up there for many years, and unfortunately I've noticed it's getting ever more popular, I'm wondering how long it'll be before the sportsbike hordes come along and spoil it. :(

There must be enough passing trade to sustain two snack vans.

I wasn't in the country last year ktm525exc, so missed that report.

Today is the anniversary of my starting from Seattle to Colombia ride (should have been to TDF but I didn't get that far).
What a monumentally crap year since, apart from the first two months that is.

Not going to see too many on the Cross of Greet road on the Lancashire side, far too twisty :) Good training for the road to Ardnamurchan light house.

we post a ride out report that went threw that area last year...;)

Is that the one where WW3 erupted over a lost pannier / topbox?

mate that is one of my regular ride outs on my days off.
usually hardknott pass, over to devils bridge, then over to the trough, stop at Dunsop bridge for a brew then home.
fantastic days riding :thumb2

The Trough is a great road; a pity it ends so soon, and even worse when you get stuck behind a Sunday driver.

A couple of others to add to the list. Link them together for a nice circuit of the area:

Delph Lane
Lyth Fell Road

WRT the Trough of Bowland itself, try riding the route from Slaidburn via Dunsop Bridge to Scorton, "enthusiastically"... at night :D

The GS then becomes absolutely in it's element as the headlight does a great job of lighting up the other side of the valley, but nothing to light the road around the corners. You hammer into the corner on the brakes, drop into the bend until your headlight gives you the clue that the corner is opening up & then you pick it up on the torque & gas for the next bend. I've ridden the TT circuit on the red line, but that never gave the rush that night riding through the Trough gave.

Seems to be quite a popular place, which is even the more surprising that I'd never heard it mentioned as a ride.
I only found it by accident and because trough sounds faintly amusing as a name for anywhere, bit like I'd ride to anywhere called, Nether Crevice, or Scratchitt's Bottom I suppose.
Must agree with the earlier poster about the Trough's brevity though, but that's the price for living in a small country I guess.
