Just measured mine and the width is around 93cm when shrunk and 104cm fully extended.
What are you going to be using them for? For adventure touring where you might be taking a few falls while fully loaded you might want something more rigid or alternatively soft luggage. For road riding and touring they are fine.
Mine did take a couple of falls on a recent trip. The are very stiff to expand/contract now and one of the lower mounting flanges cracked. They still work and I might add a few bits of metal to strengthen them.
I would also recommend getting the inner liners which I have seen on Ebay for about £50. I don't have these yet and the panniers can be quite awkward to load without leaving wasted space around items. I had to take them off and lay them on their side to load them otherwise things fall out. Not a major problem as they click on and off very easily. The inner liners would cure this.
If I do change them in the future I will go for soft luggage like the Wolfman expedition bags. Much lighter and flexible and less likely to damage your legs/ankles than aluminium boxes in a fall.
