I'm starting work in Wigan town centre in the New Year & wondered if anyone can enlighten me on whether there are any facilities for parking the GS?

Motorbikes & scooters currently enjoy free parking in Preston's St Georges Centre multi-storey & I'm hoping that one of the ones in Wigan has similar facilities...

Cheers,

Wigan Parking

I sometimes park around the edges of the town centre but it's usually only short term and am probably lucky not have had a ticket so far. I work down Frog Lane and we have our own car park there.

Look here for secure but not free bike parking.

Having Googled around it seems Wigan is pretty tight on bike parking and will ticket bikes on pavements. There looks to be a likely spot however outside Wigan North West train station to the right of the entrance under a tree. Haven't got round to checking out the proper station car park yet though.

PM me if you want anymore info. Otherwise, you may get more help on the forums at http://www.wiganworld.co.uk

Thanks a lot, Mark.

I'd googled it & found very little to go on, hence the question :thumb. I was actually a bit surprised to find that Wigan council seem to want bikes to pay & display at the town centre stands they provide. I've never come across that before, anywhere... Lancaster council provides secure parking for bikes in the St Nicholas Arcade carpark, FOC, & I've already mentioned Preston. As long as you don't take a ticket/token on entry to the carparks, they don't expect you to pay & don't have to account for missing revenue.

If anyone else has any useful info, please let me know :thumb2

Hi,
I've just moved out of Wigan, but I used a car park at the back of Wallgate Station for many many years. It's right next to the train lines. I think it is Dorning Street?
Run by two old boys.
They used to charge £3.50 a day for cars and £1 for bikes. They'll also do a deal for weekly parking. If you buy a weekly ticket then only use 4 days, they credit you the following week etc.
All done on trust, no clamping. Put money in envelope and push under door of hut. Old school.

Regards

Thanks for the info, Admiral.

I've found that the carpark next to North Western station has free bike parking & they also have ground anchors in place, too :thumb2 The only thing that could make it better would be if it was undercover. I spoke to the council yesterday, to see if they allow bikes in the Grand Arcade or Galleries car parks as both will allow a motorbike to get access past the barriers. They said that I would still be expected to pay & display &, after I pointed out the insecure display problem, they said I should pay & keep the ticket in my pocket :blast. Bleedin' clueless...

hi might be a bit late now but i always park my bike down the side of jd its hard to describe but thats basically where it is but you will need to go past the old swimming baths past the new multi-story until the top you will see cobbles on the left ride up and next to the cafe is free bike parking with bars where you can chain your bike safely as people are always in the cafe so extra security no one will try anything :) itll fit about 8 bikes maybe more normally theres always room there if not stick it on grass with a chain on it no one will mind.
its quite good as you walk 100 yards if that and your in the centre pretty much opposite pound bakery so cheap breakfast too lmao :L hope i helped kinda when im insured on my dakar (7days) ill get a camera and do a video how to get there from halfords(sofa)(car cruise place every sunday normally a few peds n superbikes there)

I think I know where you mean, Mike. It's by the "Face of Wigan" statue/sculpture thingy in the Wiend. I might give it a go, thanks.
