Wilbers or Nitron

Go Wilbers every time, we use them in tough African conditions and we have lads here that think that their GS's are MotoX bikes, plus they build some pretty big buggers here!
The advantage is that they are built to measure which makes them far more rideable.
They also are the only shocks that marry to the BMW ESA system without cocking the electronics up and work in total harmony of the same ESA switch.

The other beaut is they are practically rebuilt when serviced every two years - so you basically get new shock every two years, for a paltry sum,no brainer methinks.

I rode an Aprilia Begast 650 with a Wilbers. It's so smooth you would swear the back tyre is flat but wow does in handle. Road surface hardly seems to matter. Sadly, the Pegaso front forks are not so easy to upgrade - Unlike the BMW.

This is a timely thread:thumby: My suspension is original I've done 43k on them at least half of that fully loaded two up.
As Bilco said You adjust your style to suit the wear of the units. I'm sure mine must be buggered by now:blast

I think i'll go down the Wilburs route as I have ESA on the bike. Anyone on here had the "wesa" units fitted, and how do you find them?

Sorry , not trying to hijack thread:thumb

I had a set of wilburs on my first gs, not ESA but they were truly stonking compared to the stock things. I did this at 12k purely to improve the handling as I could never get the OE quite right

I put Wilbers on my non-ESA 2006 GSA and it transformed the bike. They are not cheap but I felt they were the best "bang for your buck" that I could spend on the bike.

I now have another GSA and this one has Wilber's on the ESA and they are even better then my original set. Very forgiving and simply smooths out the road.

You won't regret the purchase and there is always the option of retrieving a lump of the cash if you decide to sell them on.

Thanks guys, seems the route to take. Amazing to think it makes so much of a difference, I suppose the stock ones are a "fit everybody"
compromise. I'll now have to justify the £250 to Mrs J :augie
Cheers both:thumby:

The stock units will go for 30K without any sort of attention. The oil will be well thrashed long before that so they have to be built with bigger internal clearances to allow then to get that far without attention. Wilbert and Nitron etc have finer precision parts hence the better handling. But they need to be serviced appropriately or risk some nasty bills.
