Will I never learn?

What's the advantage/difference between the heavy & lite flywheel? Liter would rev freer I guess - Heavier would give a bit more momentum:confused:? make the engine feel smoother?

I prefer the heavy flywheel engines, you get more grunt from them and as you mention they are smoother. It needs a different end cover and input shaft in the gearbox as well as a few other bits.

Look what's arrived today

You can see the differences between the g/s and Basic subframes

Just need a powder coat colour match for the rest of the frame.

blue paint, a crossbar and 500 quid ?? :nenau

It wasn't £500, just over £300. The steel is a heavier gauge so they don't crack like the g/s one and there's a bigger off set in the right hand support arm to get round chunkier shocks. Just a better bit of kit all round.

It sounds expensive but the sub frame and main frame (with a log book) stands me at £450. No big deal when a Paralever frame on it's own, if you can get one, normally cost more than £500. The majority of the rest of the bits were just spares I had laying about so it will be a cheap bike (unless Kenny wants to buy it ;)) I had to buy a rear wheel, silencer and and the headlight shell and of course the new engine parts. I reckon I can build it as I want it for around £2500 - £3000.

Powder coatings back

2 day turn around and came to £120 for the blue and the satin black parts.

Just need to start putting it back together again.

That's a pretty good match for the Santorini Blue in colour and finish.

How exciting....:thumb2

Looking forward to seeing this one.. No sleep for you tonight then Rob.

Isit possible to get the enjine and box in the frame with the paralever in place, or will it have to come off again - and this is actually a serios question as I have my GS in bits and had put of starting on the back end until the box is in place.

Just fitted the engine, gearbox going in later. I've just pulled the swinging arm out to give me more room and to make it easy to fit the clutch pushrod. I have fitted them with the paralever in place before, it's so easy to remove it though and you gain easy access to the gearbox area.

That's the easy stuff done. Now the real work begins. Loads of new parts needed, seat etc. Forks need stripping to paint the sliders and fit gaiters and the front wheel needs a serious clean up and rebuild. loads of detail work to be done.

I'll post more when it's moved on a bit

end of play tonight

paint match

Hi Rob,

I presume all the parts were powder coated? What colour did you use to match the santorini blue?

I have done Ral 5010 but I had nothing to match it against.

cheers

-pete

The frame is powder coated. It's RAL 5005 (suggested by AliBaba on this site) it's a smidgen darker than the Santorini blue but is the closest you can get.

White colour code

Hey Rob can you tell me the code for the white sidepanels. I have done it once before but its coming off as I did not take it back to the black plastic and prime it. Sure its something simple like T1 or S1 ? If you painted yours what did u use to prime it ? Projects looking v nice

Paint code is 146 - alpine White. Halfords will mix you 1/2 litre or make up a spray can.

Hiya,

Do you have the part number for the Basic rear-subframe? It's from Motobins?

I would appreciate that. Thanks, and cheers.
