Will I never learn?

Can I ask the price for new valves and guides? I'm thinking of getting mine done soon. No obvious problems at the moment, but the bike has over 60 k on and I've read about exhaust valve/guide wear.

Look what turned up today

Moorespeed one piece valves (44mm inlet. 40mm Exhaust), Colsibro (age-hardened copper nickel silicon alloy) valve guides and new lead free valve seats - :bounce1

How are they age hardened, do they have a cellar that they put them in for a few years alongside some dusty bottles of plonk?

The whole lot, including VAT and postage, came to £426. My heads are from an early 80's RS so I had new unleaded valve seats fitted at the same time. All the prices are on Moorespeeds site http://www.moorespeed.co.uk/bmw-engine

Standard valve springs are ok unless your revving to silly speeds on a full race engine.

Turn around was just over a week but appears to depend on the workload.

Oh I so wish you hadn't put that link to moorespeed :blast :D

So how does this compare to your recent aquisition? :green gri

Thanks, I did have a look at the webite, but I missed that part. I was thinking of like for like replacement-it's a standard 100gs. There's no sign of impending mechanical doom, but a little preventative maintenance is maybe in order.

You shouldn't have a problem with your valve seats so it'll just be new valves and check out your valve guides. Richies valves are cheaper than genuine ones so like for like it'll be cheaper.

And I've got a BP7HS (and a BP6HS) if you fancy? They're both standard fitments on a 650 Ural :D

(how sad is that - knowing my sparkplug rating without having to look it up?)

...and your names on a label inside your jumper when you forget :) :thumb2

Up at 6am this morning for a bit of early morning fettling and we now have a runner  engine sounds really sweet, fired straight up with no hesitation. Just need to balance the carbs and I can take it for a run around the block.

Great stuff :thumb2

Well! managed to find ten minutes over lunchtime. The engines a gem. Pulls like a train and really wants to go. The gearbox is freshly rebuilt and works a treat. I need to let everything settle in first before I let it rip though.

Still got to sort out the cosmetics, get the front forks painted etc. Front wheel can be rebuilt over the winter.

Big step out the way though and always nice to get to ride a bike after a rebuild.
