I have a R1150GSA, it’s the first bike I think I’ll keep long term because it is just so practical, tough and rides so good (for a tank:)).

I have one issue with the bike. It has the stock screen which I find really blasts you in the helmet with air and after a trip around Europe I find my tolerance for it is quite low now. Autobahns at speed are the worst but I find even at low speed it’s bad.

Can anyone who has had the same experience and has now found a solution advise me on the best screen to replace my current one?

Thanks:)

there's a lot of variables as to what will work for you, though tobinators get good results see Nippy Normans for price's, they do come up on the site occasionally though you need to be quick, but do a search there's options on NACA ducts, Vario, ceebaleys laminar lips etc...

HTH

Doh! Davey boy was a bit quicker than me

The Tobinators look good. Do they work well with the slandered GSA screen?

Thanks for the replys.

MRA seems to be a favourite with everyone but pricey. I was fortunate enough to pick up an Ermax screen on this site for only £30 and find it absolutely fantastic. Its 4" higher than standard and has completely sorted out the buffeting.
Also it fits straight onto the standard fittings.

This is what i have ,

Depends who you ask , but i like it , motorway speeds with visor up . At 6ft 5 its taller and wider and also makes good riot shield ,if the locals turn nasty .

Not trying to be funny here, but maybe you should try an RT if you want to do big mileages at speed, its what there’re built for. Its very peacfull behind my screen at 70mph...

do you not get a much restricted view of the imeadiate foreground?

tobinators...... i did a trip down to spain this year with "tobis" fitted...... 80mph visor half open no problems.... great thing about these is the ability to play with various heights and angles till you get it right...... would highly recommend.... also there is a GSA set on ebay at the moment!!

Hi James,
I did some experementation with the standard 1150gsa screen, standard gsa screen with "NACA DUCTS" and the MRA vario screen(be aware if you send for a screen for an 1150gsa you also have to purchase the standard 1150 screen mounts, which are around £50 ).
Sorry i don't know how to link you there, but if you are interested,my findings can be found in this section on page 5 under the title "naca ducts" dated 2/09/09.

if you search on this site and advrider.com you wil find lots of information on the topic of windscreens, noise, turbulence and buffeting.

I've tried allsorts, and not really found a perfect solution. FYI I'm 6'4" on an 04 115GSA.

I would suggest that you try removing the screen completely, remove the hadguards, try a tankbag, try tobinators, try MRA (Ztechnik is also good plus no doubt many others). You also need to try combinaions of all of these.

Ultimately you will find something that will suit you, but it can take time and if you're unlucky $$$$$.

Currently I've cut down my standard adventure screen, and with tobinators I can get a better quieter ride. But it is different for everyone. (Sorry)

hope this helps.

Cheers

To a certain extent, yes you do. I find it can be difficult to see potholes or poor road surface when banked on bends. Not the most ideal time to have blinded view but you learn to cope.

I could do with something taller even though I'm 5ft 10. After a 1000kms ride nonstop returning from Dubai this week on the 1150GSA, my head was ringing from the wind noise, even with earplugs in.

I may start with a makeshift piece of perspex duck taped to the screen to see the change it would make as I raise it up.

I had standard screen on 1150GS, Two-up with tank bag etc on motorway I felt at times like a punchbag being knocked side to side with buffeting. You think it must be windy but trees show no sign.

I fitted a GSA screen, better protection from wind, less buffeting, but found visibility through turned up lip quite blurred and distracting.

Got a higher after market screen, GIVI I think :nenau(ebay), clearer, less distracting visually than taller GSA screen. Now wind dynamics has reduced to a higher frequency vibration right on the top of my lid/head, which makes me speak in a robotic dalek voice. Couple of hours of that might be interesting :pullface

(6'1" tall)

Thanks for all the info. Going to order a set of Tobinators this weekend and see how they are with the standard screen.
I'll report back my findings.

Im 5'10 and found that if i ducked down a couple of inches the main bufferting went away, i didnt have any spare cash for a new screen, the info on the Nasa type ducts seemed a bit patchy and a lot of hard work so i did my own mod.
I took the screen off and tool my verniers and set them to 15 mm and locked them and scribed a line around the bottom of the screen ith the leg of the caliper.
I then jigsawed of this 15 mm and cleaned up the cut with fine sand paper
with a little effort the cut looks very clean just like new.
Stuck the screen back on and the result is much better, not perfect but no more bufferting, it just allows a little more air under the screen, good thing is you would need a 'good eye' to see any difference, if it doesnt work for you than you havent knac*ed up a screen .
