Just had an offer (from Microsoft?) for a free upgrade to Windows 8.1, have not taken them up on their offer but is it worth doing?, and is it genuine or part of a scam?. It has appeared before so if it's a good scheme I can do it next time it appears.
Any advice gratefully received.

If you have Windows 8.0, a free upgrade to 8.1 is available from MS but I can't say if they are e-mailing out.

Just go onto Microsoft's website and do it yourself. No need for any third party intervention. Plug and play!

I'd say it's worth it... the upgrade from Windows 8 make some things easier to do.

Al...

There may well be a pop-up if he has 'automatic updates' set to notify......he doesn't mention an email.

If it WAS and email, I'd be very suspicious......I certainly wouldn't follow any link provided by that mail, I'd go drekkly to the MS update site via the 'update windows' option or from typing it in and do it, in case it was a 'phishing' mail.....MS probably don't have his email addy anyway , unless he's bought a copy online or something :nenau
