Windows 8 updates failing???

I've changed the settings on my new laptop because whenever Windows tries to update, it comes back with an error - failure to update, reverting to previous version.

Done it since new and never updated.

I'm using Windows 8 Pro.

Searches find numerous sites that suggest it's a known issue and MS are working on it. Is that what others understand or should I be tackling this from another direction?

Check the date on the pc as if its years out it wont do the updates

How far out of date is it? Stuff at work has a glitch now and again but in general they update ok and it's definitely not the case that win 8 can't update, ever.

Just looked on the base of the pc and the Manuf date is 12/12/06! WTF!

I only bought this in April this year. Is it my fault because I got it from PC World?

What do I do now?

but when I replaced my 500 gig HHD in my laptop with a 1 TB windows 7 wouldn't up date said service not running ( I checked it was)

my solution to fix it was after lots of prowling on internet was
install Intel rapid storage application and manually down load and install service pack 1

then all was okay with windows update ( not service pack 1 would error until intel rapid storage app was installed )

chipset was ICH9
