I used to have a 2007 GSA which had these winglets / wind deflectors fitted. I now have a 2007 GS and am intertested in fitting the same items.

I know that from 2008 onwards the front subframe had mounting holes under the plastic to support the winglets should you wish to fit them but I know that the 2007 bikes did not that frame support underneath.

I seem to remember on my 07 GSA that they were just fitted to the plastic (with no support underneath) and want to know if the plastic of my 07 GS is the same thus meaning that I can mount these parts.

I guess that would mean that they are just held on with a bolt and a nut underneath?

Thanks for any help.

I had them fitted to my old '07 GS. From memory, I braced the underside of the plastic with flat metal strips, with pre-drilled holes, which I bought in B&Q.

I have them fitted to my 2005 1200GS. No extra bracing underneath. They are fine.

Are they the BMW ones? If so do you know what the fittings are as I can't seem to see any nuts when looking on the microfische.

My 07 came with them fitted.
No extra bracing.
Is yours the adventure? Do you still have it? Could you tell me if it is just a nut underneath that holds them?

Thanks for any help

Just had a look.Fixing are,Socket button dome allen screw,3 rubber washers,
stainless washer top and bottom, and a locknut.

Thanks JPR - can I ask what year yours is and is it a Adventure?

I could be mistaken WRT a 'normal' GS, but whether an Adventure comes with the wings as standard fitment or not, the beak subframe is equipped with four metal 'tabs'. Each tab has a speed clip, threaded for a 5mm Metric screw.

The tricky part is drilling the holes to install wings. To do this, remove the beak from the front of the bike and turn it over. Carefully inspect the general area where the holes 'should' be. You'll find moulding marks which correspond to the positions the holes should be in. Mark the hole centres with a sharp-pointed awl or similar, and use a 5mm HSS drill to drill the holes.

While you've got the beak off, you'll also see moulding marks on the beak for the hole where a 12V Hella connector is fitted.
If you want one of these, now is the perfect time to drill out that hole and mount the connector. :thumb

That was only the 2008 onwards - 2006 and 2007 Adventures did not have any framework under the plastic. I am trying to find the correct fitting parts for the 2006 and 2007 adventure. Not all the parts are shown on the microfische.

Hmm, I thought that might be the case. I chopped in a 2006 GS to buy the green bike, and never had the beak plastics off the front subframe.
Apologies for any misinformation...

On my 07 GS I placed the winglets on top of the beak in the right place and having checked several times I marked and drilled the the holes. It helps if you put a bit of masking tape over the area. I used one of those stepped drill thingys for going through thin sheet. It stops it snatching. I used stainless BMW flanged bolt that was in my Man Tin, a tap washer on top and a mud wing (penny washer) cut down a bit underneath to spread the load. They have been on for about 3 years and done about 50000 miles and there are no cracks.
