Hoping for some help

I run a 15plate bike and because am getting soft I run heated insoles, trousers and jacket. But the problem is now the better half wants some headed gear now but worried the charging won't like 2 sets of clothing.

Has anyone got any advice on this?

Thanks.

Might be a struggle because I understand that can-bus limits the accessory socket output to 5 amps. This limits your heated clothing to a max 60 watts. A BMW Heatup Vest uses a max 35 watts.

Depends on the clothing and how many amps it uses. A Keis waistcoat and insoles draws under 5 amps. Other makes draw more amps. Add trousers 3.25A, double up to about 17 amps. Your alternator can put out 40A or 50A depending on model year so plenty of power for other stuff if you use lower power clothing.

I use Keis gear and even at 0 deg C I don't have the clothing on anything more than the lowest of 3 settings.

I run my Keiss waistcoat from the power socket on the dash and SWMBO's high powered Keiss waistcoat directly from the battery.

You'll be surprised how warm your hands and feet are once you keep your body core warm :thumb2

You can run 1 jacket on full power without any problem through the on board socket..if you are running 2 jackets you will need controllers to reduce the power..This was the advice given yesterday by my local Motorrad dealer

Always used on of these it works well for my wife's gloves and jacket. I plug my Aerostitch vest straight into the socket as it draws less than the maximum.

Forget wiring it through canbus, go direct fused connection to battery

This is sooo true ! Anything above 5 amps trips the canbus and will not work ! Why they have limited to that is ridiculous, direct from the battery with an in line switch and fuse is the only way to go .....I've been trying to power a
PMR radio ....nightmare !

I run keis and happy enough so that's what I would be getting for the wife,

Agree with the above with them been wired direct to battery via fuse, so looking like If I wore the wife's the same it should be fine. Tbh I don't turn mine on much although hers will be on 100% of the time!

Bike is a 15 year gs te.

Thanks

How did you mount it?

What is the purpose of the yellow 60" long wire (usually to tail light) ?

If you look on eBay you'll find various sellers who will supply a kit with a Powerlet socket with a sprung cap (the type that BMW use as the accessory socket) for less than £20. The socket is easy to mount on the small triangular plastic panel below the rider's seat, and you simply wire it across the battery (with a fuse). Job done! I use this setup to power a Gerbing jacket which draws a little too much current for the canbus.

Incidentally, I think that running a jacket such as the Gerbing at well under full heat can still exceed the 5A limit of the canbus because the Gerbing heat controller turns the jacket on/off using short pulses at full power. As you wind up the power to the jacket so the 'on' time becomes longer in each on/off pulse.

Hi guys, would it be possible to draw the power for my wife's Keis jacket and gloves from the optimate lead that the dealer has put neatly between the 2 seats ? I'm sure I read here somewhere that you can ? Anybody know ?
Thanks in advance.

Send Roadcraft rider a PM he will tell you the lead that you need that fits the Keiss and optimal and slime pump

I use a simple fuse panel that works outside the canbus, connected directly to the battery. It allows me to have: 1) a connection for my battery charger; 2) a connection for my Gerbin heated jacket; 3) a connection for my wife's heated jacket; and 4) a Gorilla alarm. It is simple to install and works perfect protecting the connections with fuses. You might need to study a little bit the instructions and proceed accordingly, as you might only need some basic electrical knowledge. If you are not sure, it shjould not be difficult to find a riding mate (or at BMW dealer) that explains how to do it. Mine was installed by Max BMW dealer in New Hampshire. Recommended.
