I have been given an AppleMac G5 and was wondering if it is possible to attach a wireless dongle in order for me to connect to our BT homehub........:nenau

A G5 will have come with an Airport card (wifi) installed as standard.

It's either been removed or there's a problem.

Do you have a fan symbol along the top right icon bar on your screen?

Hi there. No its not got the fan symbol in the top right icon bar of the screen. As far as I know when the company I work for had it spec`d up they did not have the wireless element included in the spec, its also about 4/5 years old so I`m not sure the early G5`s included a wireless function.

Ok, then my answer it to get yourself an Airport card and simply plug it in.

Simples!

Or an airport express in bridge mode plugged in via an Ethernet cable. Might be cheaper/easier to come by.

If I understand this correctly, am I to plug the ethernet cable into the router and the Mac, if so it can`t be done, owing to the position of the Mac in relation to the router within the house.
Thanks anyway Ian

you can use an airport extreme card part number is M8881LL/A I think easily found on ebay.

Buy an airport express as suggested, it plugs into mains next to your computer, links to your wifi network wirelessly and can be connected to your computer with an ethernet lead.

other option buy a mac compatible wifi usb dongle, wouldnt be my choice as you then need drivers which may or may not be available depending upon what version of operating system you are on a G5 will have limitations.

I'd suggest you find a knowledgable mac store near you and talk to them as no matter what you do its going to require some configuration connecting to
the BT box.
