Just got a new router; every time I open my laptop from Standby the wifi loses Internet (but not local) connection.

If I go into Networks and disconnect then reconnect, the Internet reconnects.

Reloaded settings, key etc. Using Windoze Vista Home Premium.

Anyone got advice, please?

Thanks,

A

Disable any dial-up services you might have installed on the machine.

IIRC it's a Vista problem.....

any chance of upgrading to 7?

Also happens on my HP notebook which uses W7. It appears to be a power saving issue. Google offers some workarounds, the simplest of which is to disable the wireless adapter and then re-enable in the device manager.

Still happening

Any ideas please?

And no "buy a Mac" comments thank you!

short workaround is to go into the power settings and configure it to switch off the monitor off after a given time but disable standby and hibernation. Not perfect I know and if it was me I would leave all settings on "never" when plugged in

and as for the fatuous mac comment go and read this

had the same problem, thought the router was knackered so bought a new one.still had same problem so googled it and came up with the power saving problem, went through the process stated above and its kind of fixed it but occasionally i lose internet still so i have a LAN cable in connected to my router and i just connect the laptop to that and go make a coffee, when i get back i unplug the LAN cable and its all sorted.beyond that i have no idea whats up with it.im using vista too.

Still need help

REDCASTLE - thanks for the tip but it's a laptop and the battery has just died too. Really need a proper fix.

LOVED the Mac link = they think they are SOOOO perfect!

Aspiring - too far from the router to plug in. Thanks for posting though.

Any more ideas out there?

I have a similar issue and am with Sky broadband. Never used to happen but started doing this about a month ago.
I can connect to another local wireless connection (they have not protected their net!!) and it does not happen or does not appear to happen.
Just living with it at present.
