Sorry to be a pain, but I am trying to find the colour of and the best place to tap into the main beam wire to operate some auxillary driving lamps, im going to put fog lamps on a switch but want the spots to come straight on with main beam. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance:aidan

Sorry again, anyone got the best ideas of where to take the power for the relays etc, do you just take it straight off the battery, sorry, I do own a garage, but bikes are a different kettle of fish, cheers again.

The fogs need to come on with low beam.

The spots need to only come on with high beam.

I no longer own a GS and don`t have a manual but look in yours (one assumes you have a manual :augie) and look for the colour of the wire from the low beam switch postion to the headlamp bulb and likewise for the highbeam.
Blue wire and white wire spring to mind but that`s from cider and wine addled memory so check it.

There should be a block connector under the tank where the wires go to to and from the handlebars so you could tap in there, and fit the relays there.
I fitted aux lights to a friend`s 1100GS and used compact relays fitted in the headlamp shell and tapped off the headlamp block connector.

Yes,you should use two relays...one for the fogs and one for the spots.

So then, your two relay coils are switched by the wires tapped off the original high beam and the low beam feeds on your bike.
The aux lamp supply is switched by the relays and the feed to the relays can indeed (and should) come straight off the battery but should be via individual fuses.
You can get inline waterproof blade fuse holders from Maplins.

There should be individual and illuminated switches to enable/disable the aux lights,too....
I`m sure that there`s a leagl requirement for that but again, check it.

Take the switching signal for general relays from the Aux socket and the main power from the battery - I have a relay feeding a Centech fuse box style setup so I can then feed multiple devices.

With regards extra lights and switching a relay for them, I am planning to use some piggy back blade connectors to go into the bulb connector inside the headlight housing and then taking this to a handlebar switch before using it to switch the relay. Mind you I have HIDs fitted so the bulb connector no longer sits on the back of the bulbs and I can feed the extra wire through the hole made for the HID cables.

Spots - high beam source

For my spots (on high beam) I connected relay control to a (plain) white wire on the connector situated top left under the fuel tank.
Power was from the battery via a new single fuse holder. I used an existing convenient earth on the frame under the tank.

PM your email address and I'll email you a photo of a wiring diagram - if I can find a camera

NB. This is on an 1150.
