Last summer out riding somewhere I “bumped” into an 800GS owner, amongst many things we spoke about wiring in accessories, which is what I’m about to start.
He reckoned you should route the live/ground cables to the battery terminals (not using frame etc to ground) as this could upset the canbus

Is this really a problem or just bo****ks

Thanks all

As a rule i always wire back to the battery with ground as it is the only guarantee that you have a good negative. Out of interest what are you wiring in? I have just done extra sockets, lights, marker lights Led brake light extensions etc on mine and might be able to offer some advice!

PS. and im fairly local (Stratford)

if the ground/frame connections are good*, how would the canbus system tell the difference?

* their condition is probably the issue. many people will be incapable of creating a decent connection to the frame + making sure it's path to the battery is all good.

As Cookie said +1

You just need a decent connection, but be sure that you're actually completing a circuit - some parts of my 800's bits are mounted on a composite bracket... I guess this might be what you are thinking about ...
