Found a nice set of small 55w halogen spots and going to make a bar.... Q is if I just want them on a simple on/off rocker switch (nothing fancy linked into dip etc) where is the best place to pick up a feed that wont be permanant live.

Spots should be fed from your High Beam ( Main Beam) feed via an illuminated switch.

Is that a legal must? if so wheres the easiest place to pick that live up

Or just a relay driven by the high beam circuit.

I would wire them into the high beam though, technically it's illegal not to (I think), and you'll be fumbling for another switch rather than just using the dip switch.

PDF Available

I have a very good PDF file available showing exactly how to do what you want, only trouble is I can't link it or get it to copy on this reply; so pm me an email address and it's yours :thumb

ps - I got it off here and it worked 1st time, which is impressive :clap

Fraid so.

It depends where you`re mounting the relays.....the wiring can be spliced into either under the tank or at a very tight squeeze within the headlight shell (depending on the model).

Do as I say, not as I do?

Seen your number plate, & you make comments about legal :rob

The guy was asking for advice..... :nenau

Anyway........two 'tugs' in two weeks mean that ALL my plates are now legal :o :o

Best I go via the main beam then

You got it mate :thumb

Just take a moment to read the info on the links or look at the wiring and the colours on the circuit diagram in the Haynes or Clymer.

It ain`t too difficult....honestly :beerjug:

Blimey Charlie they work

Nice job, they'd be more useful to you wired into dipped beam though :)

Alternatively ...

... you could have some for Low Beam

And ...

... some for High Beam. Both set's are wired through the same illuminated waterproof switch from Maplins (£2.60) which is sited on the silver plastic bit, under the RID.
