Won't start - faulty battery?

Ha ha, fair comment, and one I may of made myself. However, If it isn't persisting with rain tomorrow I will be re-fitting the starter and will let you know how it goes.

Preparing for the worst, any tips or recommendations/where and price I can get the best deal for a re-conditioned starter?

send your old one to motorworks.. and they will send you a reconditioned one for 60.80 + post.

their usual deal is you pay £100 or thereabouts.. they send you the reconditioned and once you've replaced you send the knackered one to them and they refund the difference. but in your case... its not working at all.. so just send it.
give them a ring on Monday and see what they say.

Thanks for all your help guys and had I known it was £60.80 plus P&P I would probably have gone for it. However, success! I replaced the offending part and rebuilt the unit. Mounted it on the bike today and voila, the bike started on the button. Very pleased with that. I enjoyed the challenge probably more than the challenge of getting my wallet out!

TBH - I don't really consider myself competent enough to rebuild a starter motor - but it's good to know that you can buy parts for it. and save a bit of cash in the process.

Maybe the term "rebuild" was a bit ambitious, basically I stripped it, looked at it, worked out how it worked and what it needed and I put it back together again. It was fun, a challenge. But thanks.
