I just need a piece of worktop to finish off a project in the house.
Preferably compact laminate worktop 12mm thick x 1000mm x 600 in white, or light colour/marble effect etc.
Willing to travel, but need to be realistic re distance v costs.
Anything out there?
Thanks

Nip in to BQ and ask there, there's always bits in the back in they can be bothered, good luck

We got some worktop ( second hand ) by visiting one of the small kitchen supplying shops. Told me of someone who was stripping out a kitchen and put me in touch with the fitter who just kept some back instead of skipping it.
Sue’s son needed some worktop bits for his unit in Sheffield. We got a 3m piece of 28mm top from a worktop supplier local to him. It was a seconds and very cheap. Also noticed they had lots of off cuts of various sizes waiting to be dumped. Told us to help ourselves.
Also, I think you will struggle getting 12mm thick worktop unless it’s acrylic or some other solid material.

Cheers Adrian, thanks for that. I've scoured a few places already with no luck, but still looking into local places/fitters.

Cheers Nitram, I'll check that one out.

You could try following a Wren installer, they will always have mis-ordered, wrongly ordered, wrong colour, over ordered or off cuts. That just from my experience of one kitchen installation plus subsequent refitting due to poor material quality control.

12mm

can you get a kitchen worktop that thin

I have seen laboratory worktops of that dimension - and they are usually of a high density material that is a pain to cut

Yeah, it's called compact laminate, some call it compressed laminate.
It's so much better than trad worktops that have a chipboard core.
If water gets into trad worktops they expand and basically they're f#$ked.
Compact laminate is so hard, it's resin and paper basically. When fitted, most have a black edge. Its recommended to rub linseed oil into the edges just the once before use.
I highly recommend it, I fitted it in my kitchen. It can be difficult to fix if chipped, but a trad top would be a write off in any event if the core was exposed.
Check it out if you're having a new or revamped kitchen.
I understand some people are making outdoor furniture with it, it's that resilient.
A bastard to cut though. Best to use a cement fibre circular saw blade for initial cuts
