Worldbeater panniers.Pre-production clearout

Val.H. The final design for the 1200 is coming along, but my 1200 mule went missing last year after 17000miles of african testing, but they were fine up until then,so that design seems to have worked well enough to use. They should be along in another couple of months. I'll do another pre production run of those as well(but probably only ten sets this time)

Gianluca. Yes,I will be doing them for the 800 range, but as I work alone, and do everything myself, these things take time unfortunatley. The same applies to these as well, watch out for a pre production run.

So why did you buy a set of these over a set of Caja Sahel Panniers like you had on the bike you crashed?

Oi Tuned,

Sahels are fab panniers too, mind. And I'm thankful they have saved our legs in the crash! (one of the main reasons I'm sticking to hard aluminium boxes instead of soft or plastic luggage that are more popular).

So why Verns this time? Main reason was that on my obligatory inquiry question: can you repair them if I've badly damaged them somehow - Vern told me he can repair them no matter how badly they are damaged - that's a huge pro for a bit damage-paranoid person like me :thumb2

Couple of other reasons for testing my "theories" regarding the pannier shape (resistance for smaller falls and crashes), aerodynamics (i.e. vs ZEGAs "brick" shape) and frame design (welds vs cuts).

I first saw Vern panniers in real-life in Warthog's shed here when he moved to live in Estonia some time back and it was "I must get these too" after that.

I'll write more detailed review about Verns when I've tested them in longer term.

Anyways, anybody looking for pannier in this price range should check them out closely to inspect their quality.

Just wondered if you are planning on making any for the 1200GS, I have the Vario's at the moment but was thinking of swopping out for some GSA or similar?

Aaaahh been a long boring hard working day today and missed the post, thanks for the response, look forward to seeing the end result.

When you're in full "production" mode, will you still be able to do custom jobs?

e.g. full size left pannier, with no exhaust cut-out?

A quick post to show Verns 9" panniers with low lids on the GS1150.

First job when we got them home was to put together a polishing wheel and made all that lovely stainless steel shine :D ... took a long time but well worth it and pleased with the result. Just goes to show the quality of the metal used in producing these units.

Second job ... the security system, prefered this to the padlock idea and happened to have a couple of locks available. The stainless steel bungey mounts look very tasty, you cant see it on the pic unfortunately.

... and lastly, a shot to show how to get 50 litres storage per side and still 2.5" narrower than the bars.

All in all, we're very pleased with the panniers, they're excellent value for money and good quality piece of kit.

Are there any pre production ones left if so what sizes are still available ?

I'll let you know after the weekend, because there are people coming to pick and choose tomorrow. There are no 9" wide ones left now,and only one set of 12" wide ones on the shelf.

Give me a ring tomorrow about lunch time, and I'll be able to give you a better idea.

Cheers

Vern

Here's what's left.

5 sets 11" wide with 65mm high lids. Black boxes/Silver lids.
2 sets 11" wide with 65mm high lids, Black boxes/Black lids.
1 set 12" wide with 65mm high lids, Black boxes/Black lids.
1 set 11" wide with 40mm high lids, Black boxes/Silver lids.
1 set 11" wide with 125mm high lids, Black boxes/Silver lids.

As of today, all the 9" wide and 10" wide systems are gone.

If you want tie downs on the lids, they are £45 on top of the basic price. That might seem expensive, but these are cast stainless steel and mirror polished.

I'm out most of Sunday, and in another workshop all day Monday, but if you e-mail [email protected] me or PM me here,I'll get back to you asap,or you could try me on my mobile.07905 802663

Cheers all:beerjug:

I've got a set of 11 inchers with low lids on my bike. Vern did them for me a few years back and they've been off road, dropped on both sides, overloaded on tour and generally abused and beaten to within an inch of their life... and they still keep coming back for more!
Nice one Vern, keep up the good work, and had i realized where you're now located, i could've stopped by on my way back from the three peaks.

If anyone's in any doubt about buying Vern's boxes, don't be, they're the mutts nuts at £500 or £600!:thumb2

I LOVE these. Vern you have a PM:thumb

Outstanding!!

Bought one of the first narrow sets years ago - simply can't be beaten. Best set up by far would be one of Bryn's stubbies and a set of Worldbeaters with no cutout on the left hand side.
Craftsmanship like you wouldn't believe. Stop hanging about...

Oh yes, sold the bike - and kept the panniers!
