worried 1200gs

Thanks for raising the question. I've been having similar thoughts myself, though sadly not because i have an epic ride on the horizon.

My 04 GS will be out of warranty in October and has so far been faultless. (May have disc warp issues, but that doesn't worry me unduly).

My worry is that the many glitches listed may strike once its out of warranty...Its only covered 5k miles (i know, lightweight etc), so is my good fortune simply down to not covering enough distance?

I was also wondering about the KTM - the 950 Supermoto though. I bought the GS for a big trip that never happened (a sprog intervened) and I mainly use it for Saturday morning hooliganism. Love it - but maybe a slight waste of its potential. Have been been interested in the reports of the KTMs...anyone out there with real world experience?

Glad you've reached a decision.

On the breakdown recovery front, I didn't have a warranty booklet with my new 1200 (bought new in May 2005). I phoned BMW Customer Services with your query - am i covered in Europe while it's still under warranty? - and they sent me out a booklet with all the information you're likely to need, and full details of what you can and cannot claim for. Seems they will cover more than just recovery of the bike - they also stump up for hotels, hire fees, etc.

Incidentally, I really love my 1200 - an improvement (albeit slight) over the 1150 I had before, and I really loved that bike too!

Robin.
