Absoutely yes

I keep going through phases of wanting to find something else to lust after (in terms of bikes of course...) - trouble is, whenever I go out on a long run on the 12 I just know its the best all-rounder there is...

If mine were stolen or written off I'd buy another one asap.

1 year and 9,500 miles later no problems.

The 1200Adv? A good bike made worse IMHO, too high, too heavy, (too expensive?).

A salutary lesson in madness:

1. Take a bike that gets slagged off

2. Make it too high for most riders

3. Make it heavier

4. Make it more butch

5. Tell customers it's an 'Adventure' model

6. Watch those who slag off the basic model celebrate it for the aformentioned changes

Makes no sense at all :D :D :D

Peter

Nicely put. I tried to make the same point in an earlier 1200Adv thread (and there are many of those) but not quite as eloquently. :(

And yes, 13k and 1 year in I'd have another too.

best all round bike ever

agree totally.............. i've been riding bikes legally since 1967. The 1200GS is the ebst all round bike i've ever owned, to the extent now that I hardly use the G/S, The Adventure has goone the same way as the 1150 to high and to heavy............. i'm just going to change the color scheme from yellow bits to gunmetal metallic, add the TT lights i've just bought, put the number plate of the G/S on it, add Metal MUles silencer and close fitting left hand pannier frame and enjoy it !!! Only thing left to do will be to put Ohlins on, which i'll do when it hits 20k miles..........................why on earth buy an Adventure!!!!!

Not only would do but am doing.
Just had to sell mine due to moving to the states but I've already got my new bike lined up. The great thing is I'm even saving money :bounce1

Mines 18 months old & has done 17,000 miles, can't decide whether to sell it & order another for March 2006 or keep it for another year. Will definitely buy another one some time in the future :)

Before I said that I wouldn't but, having been to the bike show last week, I'd now say yes to either another GS or possibly an RT.

So we all read and comment on the problems many have had on the 1200GS. People having noisy brakes, oil leaks, new rear diffs, electrical probs. and try and help out others with advice and share experiences.

We have all spent (or asked our banks to cough up) near on £10000. But the burning question is (certainly with the arrival of the 1200 GS Adventure), would you buy another one ??? Simple answer Yes or No ?

54 GS12
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO YES :monkeypiz

Oh yes, and it'll have to be one like that silver 1200Adv on the World of BMW gallery.

Nothing else will do for riding past shop windows!

Steve

Hand on heart, there really is no other bike I want. :thumb
If I was given a £20k Ducati, I would not complain however, I would honestly sell it and buy another R1200GS and spend the change on bits!!!

The 1200ADV is slightly tempting and looks great, but It is possibly to heavy, and overdone for my neads (I do not travel the world yet)

Where'd you move to?

I voted no. Brought mine in March, sold it in September. In that time I travelled over 7000 miles including a two up three week trip touring the Baltic States. It never missed a beat and it was non abs so it stopped too. I like to open my garage and feel proud/pleased/smug call it what you like every time I see my bike. The modified 1150gs I had before did this. The 12 felt more of a Jap bike and certainally did not feel a quality bit of kit. There seemed to be too much plastic and not quality plastic at that. The bike was appaulling, even dangerous, to ride in cross winds and I found the seat uncomfortable. Anyway, each to their own, but I will not buy another. Now if a low mileage abs non servo'd 1150gs or Adv comes in two years time then I will find space to put it.

Absolutely yes.

I love it. 6 months - 8000 miles - a great bike!!! Way better for my needs than the 1150GS I had previously.

I woudn't buy a red or blue one though.

:) Definitely! A great bike and I've experienced none of the problems some people seem to have.

No, wouldn't buy any BMW again. Four new BM's and all have needed warranty work required although, the 12 only required one claim for a faulty alternater. The 12 just didn't do it for me. It felt more like a road bike made to look like a big traily. Road tested KTM 950 this week and the bike sparkles compaired to the GS. Wouldn't buy one though as there are too many reliabilty issues which is a shame. LB

NO

Too many faults, very poor workmanship, appalling after sales service.

I bought a Honda for 2,000, did 40,000 miles on it and never had a problem.

My 1200 GS is a Lemon. (see my post in newbies)

Might think about the adventure once BMW have got rid of the gremlines though......

NOT A CAT IN HELLS CHANCE.ITS ONE THING TO HAVE THE BIKE GO WRONG BUT TO HAVE THE SUPPORT SERVICES OFFERED BY BMW CONSTANTLY MESSING UP IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.NO,BMW GET NOT ONE MORE PENNY.UNLESS OR UNTILL THEY GIVE ME A COMPLETLEY NEW REPLACEMENT BIKE THAT PERFORMS AS IT SHOULD WHEN IT SHOULD TO PROVE TO ME THAT MY MACHINE IS A ONE OFF,A MISSFIT,I WILL DO EVERY THING I CAN TO PERSUADE PEOPLE NOT TO BUY A BMW MOTORCYCLE.

1200 ADVENTURE DOUBT IF IT WOULD MAKE IT ROUND A ROUNDABOUT LET ALONE THE WORLD.SHITE.

oh so definately yes, nothing else i have ridden over the last 25 years gets as close as this bike does, to being perfect.

Mmmm! methinks there are some here slagging the 12Adv, the way some of the 1150 boys were slagging the 12GS. Horses for courses, I say. I didn't buy the 12, because of the looks, but gimme the engine anyday. So thats why I've ordered the 12Adv. It suits my purpose, and thats not for riding past shop windows.
When I choose to, I do big mileage, hence the need for a big tank. When I choose to, I take her on some of the roughest roads here in Ireland. Hence the need for the longer suspension,(the 1150GS, and 12GS felt like the suspension was solid, compared to my 1150 ADV), so thats not even getting off road, but I do that when I can. I'll probably never have the privelage of riding round the world, but I make a brave attempt at getting as far across Europe when I can, and there's plenty of trips that suit the Adventure there. It's not a statement of style, it's the bike I want to ride, and while BM make them I'll buy them. You keep buying your 12's, I'll not knock you for it, and I'm glad most of you are happy with them, it boads well for the new ADV.
So the upshot is I can't wait, and yes I'll probably buy on again.

THE BARON

My GS12 was one of the earliest in the country, and an ex-demo to boot so I had one or two warranty issues which BWM sorted without quibbling.

Would I buy another ? Most definitely and without hesitation, I can't think of any other bike I would rather enjoy riding both on and off-road. I know there are rivals such as KTM etc but for me the BM is what I want. My avatar shows me and the bike on Slea Head in Co Kerry, Ireland, a long way from home. I can't think of a better bike to go there on.

I'm not a knee-down wannabe racer or a skilled off-road rider but my GS has allowed me to enjoy both tarmac and mud with equal fun on the one bike, and for that I have nothing but the greatest respect for this brilliant machine.

I really thought id found the bike that was gonna do it all a real hero somthing i could really enjoy. All my bikes bar 1 have been brand new never have i felt so let down by a bike.Honestly i could break my heart........
The reasons why i wont have another BMW are not only to do with the bike, its BMW's attitude towards there customers. My dealer is Southport Superbikes and they have been BRILLIANT but BMW HQ have not been so.
I've had issues with my bike practically from day one SSB bend over backwards and BMW try to get away with the bare minimum.I had an issue with the person who was supposed to be in charge of the warranty department, basically i had lost quite a bit of time off work with the machine breaking down, and as i was going to be spending a fair bit of money on some accessories in the intrests of good customer relations could they come to some arrangement bearing in mind the money id lost off work, this is a brand new bike, presenting the same problem time and time again. It even presented a problem that had supposedly been identified on older machines and cured by fitting a new design of seal, which mine was fitted with from the factory. The answer was "you have a warranty, what more do you want?"
When my machine was looked at by one of BMW's technical people and it was agreed that my bike had problems which seemed to elude him ,and i again had cause to talk to this manager woman she suddenly decided "I don't really deal with the bikes,i mostly deal with the cars,i can't make a decision".
Ive had parts sent to the dealer for warranty claims that can't be fitted because the soft ware hasn't been released.I've had my bike returned andthe recovery driver wants me to stand on the back of the truck holding the bike whilst he tilts and slides the bed and if i dont want to hold it i can operate the tilt and slide!Ive been called a :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: for not signing the delivery form before inspecting the machine after its been returned.
BMW,s own insurance threatened to terminate my cover after repeatedly requestig that i "forward the requested documents" when asked what documents i'm told they dont want any only to recieve the same letter giving me 7 days to comply a few days later that happened on 4 occassions the last time being a recorded delivery letter. Then my insurance documents never turned up,three requests for them later some guy in London sends me my documents and "if I have his could i forward them to him".
BMW send out technicians who, although they are very nice and polite, know nothing about the bikes, have no diagnostic equipment or training so cannot fix the thing all they can do is stand there looking embarressed and call for a tow truck, whats the point in that?
This latest breakdown required a tow truck,BMW forgot to send the details to the recovery agent 5 hours almost for that to arrive, and this time i was left stranded without transport so a hire car was arranged, they took my credit card details (Got that bit right Din't they)Im still waitin for the fookin car now.
Then my dealer diagnosed the fault ,but it wasn,t present when the bike was taken to them, but they knew what it was but had to beg the warranty dept to autorise the parts to be sent, they were gonna let me have it back with faulty brakes(Why not BMW let it out the factory with the rear wheel bearing loose in its housing!)
The build quality is appalling the front frame is going rusty, the paint is chipping off the rear frame, the whole BMW package ,for me,has been shoddy.
They,BMW,have messed up every aspect of my ownership .This is the first BMW i have owned.Iam thoroughly dissapointed and dissolusioned i'm unable to enjoy the bike now as ive lost faith in it,i just do not trust it.Its a shame it was everything i wanted in a bike.It promised so much and delivered so little.17% of people in this poll wont have another,BMW are currently trying to appeal to a larger market, people like me unless they get there reliability sorted and there satalite services they are gonna lose bigger than they gain.I wont dare have another BMW.I dont trust the brand. That is why i wont have another long winded i know. But at least you all know why i am so pissed off.
I'd buy another bike from SOUTHPORT SUPERBIKES but not a BMW.
