Would you expect 14 month old tyres to do this?

My GSA has been running on Tourance EXP's from new and covered a mere 5500 miles (road only). The rear is in need of replacing, and whilst at the dealer the service guy checked the front. It's cracking where the 'blocks' of the tread meet the surface of the tyre on 90% of the blocks on the nearside of the tyre, but only the odd one on the offside (yellow circle). I asked the dealer what could cause this and he said age (which is not an issue in this case) or incorrect pressure. I know that it's not a pressure issue as I have the tyre pressure sensors (and I check the reading on every ride.), and also manually check them frequently as don't always trust electronics.
Would you expect a tyre to do this, or is it a possible faulty tyre? I'm reluctant to use EXP's now so have ordered standard Tourances.

I'd probably be more worried about the nail that's in it

I'd me more concerned about the nail in the tyre, but each to their own

FWIW, the sub 5K miles Trail Attacks which I binned a couple of weeks ago had just begun to do the same thing on the front tyre.

Had the same problem myself last year with a Tourance... had it sent back to Pirelli... after a 6 week wait I got a credit note for 45% of my next tyre... but if you have alook on there website I think there running a recall on a batch of Tourance because of this problem...

Wow, amazing how photos can be deceiving, it's actually a piece of gravel stuck to the tyre believe it or not. We've had our estate resurfaced and they've cocked it up so the surface keeps coming up. Loads of gravel sticks to the tyres, especially on my car.

I'd be more worried that the bit of gravel stuck to the tyre looked like a nail to me.

should have done what I did "Went to specsavers" :augie

I,ve had Tourance tyres do that before on me, maybe they all do that, not had any problems with them even like that.

My trail attacks did that but seeing as their was already about 12000 miles on them... I wasn't too worried!

That's bloody good of Pirelli crediting you for a duff Metzeler tyre :thumb2

In the last 32 years of riding I've never had a pair of tyres last 14 months. You need to try harder :comfort

That's why I stopped using Tourances about 6 or 7 years ago because both the sets I had on the GS did that after a year or so (the front was always worse )

i've got 8.5K miles on my trail attacks - does that mean i am good for another 3.5K ?????????????????????????????????????

No, for somebody who presumably rides most of the time on good, abrasive, Scottish tarmacadam, it means that you, Sir, ride like a wimp....:rob
