Sorry Guys but I think that if it says 20 miles it should be at least 20 miles left in the tank, if that means that BMW need to err on the side of caution and have it reach zero when there's 5ltr left in the tank then so be it.

For christs sake, India has put a craft on the moon and the might of BMW can't get this right.

I am not on a downer with BMW, I love my 1200 but we pay a lot of money for a premium product and your making excuses for poor quality control????

Hi Neil,

You have good mates to come back for you and take the hit of extra hotel bills and time off work.

The fuel gauge is shite. What is worse it is inconsistent shite. Mine has been reset four times in 10000 miles and each time it has come back with different characteristics. Either it runs out of fuel with 40 miles on the clock or (currently) it shows empty at 180 miles with 4 litres still in the tank.

I despair of it working. What I am not clear about is whther the fuel consumption and other measures are also random number generators. Wish I had not paid extra for the computer.

As has been said. Set the trip and keep a margin of error.

Like you say Daffy, we are paying for a premium product and they should get it right, no excuses, also love my 1200, gripe is more aimed at dealer than bike.

Sorry but you will find “sympathy” in the dictionary between shyte and syphilis.
I strap a 5 ltr container onto one of my panniers.
That’s after being caught out once.
Did you buy the bike there? Perhaps some “goodwill” might be in order but its something that you had a problem with before, you were never a boy scout were you!

It strikes me as unlucky, but after running out once, I would have checked before relying on it again.

That said, we are paying for a premium product, and have every right to expect the guage / countdown to perform adequately. As it had already been in for "repair", I would expect at least some small gesture from the dealer for the inconvenience that has occurred - why should they get away with poor quality repairs. Dealers only learn if they have to pay for their mistakes, the same as Neil had to when he ran out of fuel. I would have another go at them, start by writing directly to the owner / general manager of the dealership, and copy the letter to BMW customer services.

The countdown on my Megamoto would appear to be pretty accurate, I have had it down as low as 2 miles remaining, and into single figures on numerous occasions, due to the piss poor tank range
