Would you expect 14 month old tyres to do this?

The Tourance Exp on the front of my R1200GS had lots of cracks in it - some looked quite deep. I first noticed it after about 8,000 miles / 18 months old. I was quite concerned but my local tyre dealer said it was OK. I've just replaced it at 2 years old / 12,000 miles. It still had a lot of wear left but I'd lost confidence in the tyre.

The rear didn't have any cracks but I changed it at 8,500 miles with lots of wear left because it had a puncture.

Round and black? Got air in them? Then ffs man up and just get on with riding the fking thing and stop navel gazing.
 
Same here, 12month trail attacks and cracks appeared as on picture. covered 8500km so they are on the way out
 
Hi, had the same cracking issue with a front Bridgestone tyre after about 5,000. I swapped to the original Tourance's, not the EXP's and they had been fine.

I would love to know how anybody gets 12,000 miles out of a set of bike tyres !! ?
 
Closely check the sidewalls too, a few years ago I had a standard Tourance crack between tread blocks and also crack deeply into both tyre sidewalls around almost the entire circumference. :eek:

I had done about 8000 miles on it but got a 65% discount on a replacement tyre by Metzeler Pirelli. They never give you any feedback on what the cause is, it's a bit like hush money to remove the faulty items from marketplace and keep customers happy.

That's interesting, my dealer said they needed replacing ASAP :rolleyes:
Ordered 2 new Tourances now. Oh well, found a place that will supply and fit front and rears for £217 all in so not too bad. Would have been cheaper if I took the wheels off myself and just took them down but it's not worth the hassle for the sake of £10-15 imo

Similar here. Got 90% credit note but no admission of liability from Pirelli, so was fairly happy with that. Incorrect tyre pressures were suggested, and I swung the 'tyre or bike manufacturer suggested?' question.

I'm with you though Snerkler - err on the side of caution.
