Warranty is different from Consumer Rights. The terms of a Warranty can be anything they want, so if they state it must only be serviced in months ending in a "y", then that is fine. This isn't the same as consumer rights.

The law defends your consumer rights, and the fact that doing you're doing your own servicing using "approved parts" etc. won't affect your legal rights. But you would have to be "competent".

In the event of a dispute, it would then be down to the courts to decide what the definition of "competent" is, and whether you actually are...or not.

And whether the parts are approved or not (eg would a DID chain be acceptable substitute part...probably not a shaft drive :nenau rather than an actual BMW one... ) or Halfords oil is acceptable Vs BMW approved oil...

They charged me £388 with a rear tyre fitted and I supplied my own oil, B***tards :eek:

And don't you just know the grease monkey took your fully synthetic home for his own bike & put glug in yours! ;)
