What a worthwhile trip to make, definitely at the top of the list when I get my GSA.

Why wait? Do it now man!
I found it very moving going up there, and personally tried to do some research beforehand to link in with the Guernsey Militia, some of whom signing up early and being placed in the RIR they entered battle in 1916 at Thiepval ( I walked in their footsteps ninty years later), others going into battle as the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry and seeing action on other parts of the Front (Dec 1917 Cambrai) where they suffered heavy casualties, with nearly 40% of the regiment either killed or injured. They were further decimated in the 1918 reversals around the Battle of the Lys, east of Hazebrouck. the RGLI was bussed south to help stem the German advance. Hopelessly outnumbered, but holding the Germans in a fighting retreat from Doulieu to near Merris, the Battalion suffers appalling casualties for the second time in the war.
Doubtless there is an equally brave story near you waiting to be told.

We went over there in 2008 for a 3 day trip.
Hilltop 62 museum and trenches were good. Tyne Cott was very moving and the German cemetary.
The Menin Gate Last Post at 20:00 every night is not to be missed, also very moving.

We are going again this year (Sept 2011) probably going further south. I'll try and talk them into going as far as the Ossuary as that looks like a great place to visit and ponder.
