X Challenge cutting out and hesitating.

Tested the pump, cleaned out the fuel lines, filter and injector and also the tank.

Seems that it goes for about 5 miles or so then I get a popping then it dies. Start it up and it ticks over ok but when revving to mid throttle it is like it is on the rev limiter. then 3 or 4 minutes later and it dies and won't even try to fire.

I am now at the stage where it needs somebody with the time and knowledge to test some of the electrical bits like coils etc. I can't believe it is plug or coil related as it would at least run albeit rough on one plug or coil. To have both go at the same time in very unlikely.

On holiday now for a couple of weeks so hopefully when i'm back in 2 weeks time it will all be sorted and I can just ride it!

Fingers crossed!!

mhsnowy, I had similar problem in Iceland...
Have you checked air filter and cleaned idle actuator on the side of throttle body?

Spoke to a BMW mechanic today and he seems to think that it is a faulty Lambda sensor. When they start to go they cause over fuelling which causes symptoms similar to leaving the choke on I'm guessing.

IIRC Rossi from this forum seemed to think if you disconnected the lambda sensor the bike would switch to a slightly richer map, but would run fine. Worth unplugging and giving it a go?

I have been reading lots on this subject and I'm inclined to agree with you. It appears that no likely damage can be done unless you still have the CAT fitted.

Won't run perfect and can cause stalling issues on idle but should start and run.

The std exhaust with cat can break and block up the exit. I've had this happen on an xmoto after doing some jumps. Take the silencer off and shake it ,listening for any lose bits.

Got a non cat Remus fitted at the moment and my standard can has been de-catted also.

I can confirm it will run fine with the lambda unplugged. Apparently runs 10% richer.

I am away at the moment so I have left it with a mechanic friend to run a few tests.
It would appear that the pick up coil is messing around. He is going to let me know tomorrow if it is that or not.

It was the pick up coil....... :thumb2

Went for a little 120 mile ride today and it goes really well. Must have been deteriorating over time and I didn't notice the gradual decline in performance. Apparently according to Moto Works they sell a lot of these.

While it was apart had a 400W stator fitted. The windings are twice the size but it is still a straight fit.

Very Happy now :D:D

Next step is to fit a Remus header pipe (bigger diameter) and a leoince tailpipe. (Loud Remus tailpipe available for sale soon).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions

Glad you have your bike sorted!

Where is the pick up coil located? is this in the generator casing?
