Hi, I fancy getting an xCountry, but have never sat on one and can not find one in the dealers. Has anyone around Hampshire got one I could throw my leg over to try it for fit, I'm just south of Basingstoke.

I'm on the short side and wonder how tall a standard 07/08 bike will feel. I believe the 09 and onward bikes were lower... Also if anyone local is thinking of moving on their xCountry I may be interested.

What is your inside leg measurement......no not that one

I am 29inch and cannot ride a stock X-Challenge but can ride any of the X-Countries...07-09.

Thanks Mike, that's good information. I'm about 28inch but can ride a low suspension 1200GS. I suspect from what you say I may be able to just manage an '07 xCountry but would be more comfortable on an '09 one with the lower suspension.

Mind you there are not many xCountrys for sale in UK at the moment... I'd also prefer an ABS one if possible.

Anyone know how much heavier the ABS option makes the bike? This is a factor for me as I hope to carry the xCountry on the back of my campervan.

I think all the 09 X Countries are fitted with ABS and the weight difference is 3 or 4KGS max.

To me, ABS is a pain and I removed mine..... but it depends on what you plan to do. If its mostly off road, don't bother with an abs model.

You should be OK on an 07 at 28 inches...just on tip toes. There is also 'room' to make the seat lower so that its less of a stretch.

Another option is to have it lowered. I just bought an 07 x-country for my wife from inmate Phil-H. I put all my old 09 suspension and forks on it and then we lowered it (with Bas at Hyperpro) further to get a seat height of 787mm!!! So it is possible to go very low.

Good luck. These bikes are easily adaptable.

Thanks for that further info Mike. I mainly plan to use it on the road and ABS has helped me out a couple of times in the past. At 4-5Kg ABS not going to make a big difference on the back of my van. There is an '07 for sale on here but it's 'Up North' and a long way to go to just throw my leg over and I'd probably need to have it lowered for comfort.

Anyway hoping for one to come up for sale in the south so I can have a proper look. I also have an R100GS I should sell first to make room in the garage...

Again, thanks for info, what you said it still encouraging.
