2007 Xcountry - The bike stopped dead, all lights and display switched off. Checking the obvious stuff, the battery was at normal voltage and conections good and the only fault that I can find is a blown fuse F. I have replaced that and all seems good for the moment, but am looking for advice on any known causes.

I have had a quick look for chafed wires but cannot fins any. The only other event which may be linked, is the left hand indicator comes on at high revs and I notice that fuse F seems to fuse the indicators as well as the starter relay.

Johnny,
I think we voided the warranty with all the abuse it has had the last two days :D

Water in the electrics is a pretty good guess as my son was jetting off yesterdays mud just before it happened. So just a sponge from now on?

Pressure washer is ok

Just avoid the tank/rad panel on right (brake) side as that's where the starter solenoid lives

Water in it & 15a fuse blows or worse

Thanks - will go and have a ride and see if this fuse lasts ok, and will assume that water was to blame if all goes right.

Just replace the starter solenoid.

I had similar issues with my Xchallenge, kept blowing fuses, usually just after i'd tried to start the bike, or i was turning it over on the starter.

Checked the loom right the way through, and couldn't find any obvious faults, along with all the connections.

This issue plagued me for a month or 2, before i found a thread on adventure rider with similar symptoms.

There were a few other strange habits that the bike picked up, but i can;t remember off the top of my head.

New solenoid cured them all.

Problem sorted - I think.

All now running OK. I found a bit of chafed loom that was intermittently shorting out as it comes out from behind the alternator towards the rear of the bike. A few wraps of insulation tape and a new fuse have it running fine for now and I will effect a bit more permanent repair at the weekend.

Luckily it all happened near home and was no big deal and to be fair, I don't really expect to buy a six year old bike and not have teething problems. Plus, after following the wires around I now know where everything is on the bike.:beerjug:
