This may sound like a stoooopid situation, but:

I have a completely genuine WinXP Home serial from a laptop i bought, but it didn't come with an XP disc.

Now i want to format my drive and rebuild the s/w from scratch, but need a win xp home disc. I already have the original license so don't want to pay for a copy, (when it's the license you're paying for)

HELP: Anyone out there feeling generous enough to send me copied version?(don't send me serial number, i have one) it's literally just the disc i need.

Pretty please...... :thumb

It don't quite work like that - your pc probably (unless someone has deleted it) likely has a seperate partition with Windows on it or your machine came with a 'recovery CD' which does a 'day zero' install of your computer.

Yes, it did come with a "recovery cd" however, i don't want to use this as it came pre-installed with shit loads of crap on it that i just don't want.

I literally want to do a completely clean install, so when i'm done, i have nothing but windows installed... then I get to chose what "i" want to add.

If i do a complete format, including any hidden partitions, then i can reset partition size to ensure a completely clean disc....

but again, i'm stuck with not having a disc to then get windows back on even though i have my genuine serial number.... hence the need for a disc.

but i appreciate your sentiment....

i restored an evesham pc with the evesham branded recovery disc & it was just a normal XP cd in use :nenau

edit: forgot to say, i can do you a disc. it's XP home OEM version, so you'll need a serial for that exact variant. your serial could be for another version & may not work.

you can even have it with SP1 slipstreamed in if you want.

I'll have to double check the version, i know my serial is for XP Home, i'm assuming it's for OEM and it's from an original install that i have the serial? Will it make a difference if i'm using an OEM or not, so long as it's Home edition?

Sweb if it's XP with service pack 2 your after pm your address mate
Your existing licence number will work as long as it's the right edition. And as you say you've paid your licence.

If there is anyone on the forum who is still running XP without service pack 2
you really should install it a.s.a.p there are nigh eighty or so security updates you will be missing, if you cant't download it (if your still on dial up) order it from microsoft- click on link
.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx
.
You'll have to pay a shipping charge can't remember how much but not a lot :thumb
