After owning 1 x Gen1 and 2 x Gen 2 XR’s I’ve now ordered a new GS1250. My last GS was when I bought one new in 2010. Hope it’s not a decision I end up regretting!
2 XR's between 2015 and 2020 then onto 1250 GS
On second GS since last June
After 21000 miles absolutely no regrets
Torque is the reason....and even more comfy for me than the XR
I traded my R1250GS in for a Gen 2 XR last February and have mostly regretted it since, once the novelty of the ballistic top end had worn off. I suspect I’ll be changing back after this summer….

I've owned three XR's over the years, but always return to a GSA for the lovely wave of torque and the, for me, increased comfort. But then again I'm an old fart.
Cheers
Here’s a question that I haven’t seen entered, we all know there is no such thing as the perfect motorcycle, so, if it is possible, how does the S1000XR stack up reliability and problem-wise compared to the R1200/1250GS, known issues, warranty claims, breakdowns, etc.
The gen1 XR were built prior to the accountants took an interest in the new one, the overall quality of the gen1 was probably better, just look at the R100- R80- R1100 - R1150 still going strong R1200 not so many.
BMW have now gone down the avenue of the accountants decide how a bike is built.
