I thought the Tenere was limited to 200 bikes and by internet only for the first batch. Now it seems every Yamaha dealer has a demo and can get the bike for you. I saw one in Colin Appelyards Keighley a few months ago, it looked a bit basic and cheap but I bet the thing is plenty tough enough on the road.
Simple things like crash buffers built into the bodywork, twin sided swinging arm to take the load off the bevel box etc make it look as if an experienced engineer has designed it.
OK its expensive, but If I was planning a world tour the few thousand over the cost of a GS1200 would not be such an issue. A lot of the worry about reliability could be pushed to the back of your mind.
I suspect if BMW did not sell so many GS1200 bikes the factory would not be viable and would be closed, The Tenere may not be the bike to pinch many GS sales but it should be taken as a warning by BMW, others are closing in on you. The Yen/£/Euro could make a big swing anytime, how would the Tenere be viewed if it was £9500 and the GS1200 £13000 ?
