Yamaha SR500 incoming

One thing I forgot to mention is the fact that the bike has spoke wheels. It must be a later year. The spoke wheels are much lighter than the alloy wheels that were on the american version of the SR ...
In the UK all the SR500 models had spoked wheels up to around 1981 when they brought out the alloy wheeled SR500E

Hi Mark , nice to see you reminiscing about the Van Van I had a further three happy years on it. I notice the header pipe looks a bit blue where it comes out of the head. Possibly the noisy free flow exhaust is making the bike run too lean. Might be worth checking the plug👍

That SR looks great….hope it gives you miles of smiles.

A happy looking Steve some 45 years ago, I had a grey SR with the smaller headlight, then this one. The picture was taken in Bocking/Braintree visiting friends I had worked with the previous year. Somewhat inexplicably I went back to Cumbria on a Sanglas S2 500 I saw in Ongar Motorcycles and swapped for the SR500. The SR's were great bikes but I somehow preferred the longer legged and heavier flywheeled Sanglas. All a bit of a distant memory now though.

Gotta love a big single!
You've obviously never owned/ridden a Honda FT500, I would rather walk miles In poorly fitting shoes with blisters.
Anyone who tells you different is not wired right or as one to sell.
often turn up unused in original packaging (see bikes and beards) there's a reason for that.
How could the cb250rs be so perfect and the FT500 be so wrong?
I know I am in a minority of one - I loved the FT when I first saw it and still do! Ha!

Mark that bike looks tremendous, enjoy it. 👍

That looks like a BSA Goldstar Replica 'silencer'
It is. I bought one from these sans baffle (it was very noisy and made the Goldie twitter note🙂).
When I fitted the baffle the twitter doesn't sound☹️ but the noise levels are tolerant.

I sent for a baffle from these...
(44mm inside diameter, which just slips in and fastened with a small bolt through the hole that should be near the end of the silencer
facing the wheel).

Dunstall rep silencer now fitted and a few other little jobs done. Took it for its first run just now. It took a bit of starting, but I am sure I will get the knack eventually. Starts first kick when warm. The motor power characteristics are right up my street. Silencer has just the right amount if noise. Happy days!

I had an American import FT500 back in the early 90,s great wee bike but if’y starter motor.

Looks great Mark, always liked the look of these and had a SRX600 back in the day. Where is that railway station, is it Weyborne? cheers :beerjug: John B
It is County School Station between North Elmham and Guist. Owned by mid Norfolk Railway, but the section between it and Dereham is not operational, or in the other direction for that matter. They have a small museum, cafe and a tiny gauge mini railway which little kids love.
