Been looking at BMW GS650 singles for a while, either fancy a Sertao once the hot start issues are guaranteed to be fixed with no compromise to fuel economy, or more recently, have been looking at the 650 X Challenge :)

So now I have registered, how do I view adverts? They are still locked?

Im riding a Yamaha WR250X (Supermoto) at the moment to trade up from, always ridden small engine bikes in my 25 years of riding, in more recent years Fuel economy has played a part, and im well impressed with the economy these modern GS650s give for a larger machine :)

I actually wish I had known about GS650 singles when I bought my WR 2 years ago....

Thanks.

Thats a bit odd, paying to view adverts? So people are only trying to sell, to people who already own a GS, rather than those that dont!!! :clap

I can understand, as many forums (especially the non-sponsored ones) pay to list adverts, but paying to read, even paying to read dealers adverts? Very odd.

I would probably subscribe if I bought one (Like I have done on other forums for cars / bike I own) but I cant see the point if I dont own one yet?

Sorry :)

I dont yet own a Beemer but may subscribe anyway. However i have to agree with @mrgoeff, it does seem daft to have all adverts visible only to people who already own similar bikes (mostly anyway).

Just because the policy has always been daft (sorry) unusual doesn't mean it shouldn't be rethought. :hide

After all selling anything is all about doing the numbers. On one level, they are all time wasters except the one who cough's up.

I think there's a reasonable argument to let non-subscribers see what's for sale. As the two gentlemen have pointed out, they are interested in possibly buying a GS motorcycle, but are excluded from seeing what's for sale. I find that most bikes for sale through a specific forum are usually in better shape or have been cared throughout their lives by enthusiasts of the mark. Therefore, I'd be inclined to buy from said enthusiast first.

I wouldn't consider letting non-subscribers post adverts to sell their wares tho'.

There's much more than GS bikes for sale and some sellers post their stuff for sale at bargain prices as they are quite happy to pass on their good deals to like-minded people.

If anyone thinks that all viewers should be able to see all the adverts, then there is a secret link here that may assist.

This seems very sensible... a seller needs as many people as possible to see what he's selling..

How about options for those who want to sell only to the community to restrict who can view. Even set the default to community only.

However, keeping out all and sundry seems a bit OTT (presumably the advertiser wants to sell the item(s). It should be clear to the seller that responses from the masses may not be the same quality as those from subscribed users.

I've not subscribed for 2 reasons:
1) I dont yet have the wedge to buy another bike
2) I want to make a properly considered decision and "fear" getting dragged in**

** Like I haven't already - but hopefully my point is understandable.

Can't see the big deal.......it's a pound a month!!

In return you get good deals and get to sell all your old junk to boot.

But regardless of my cash situation, its still daft to hide the adverts under the subscription. It sure looks like keeping a them & us thing going on is more important than selling stuff.

Nope, saved at least £12 buying something this week here

Subs help keep the site running, enable you to PM others and save money buying and selling stuff

Unfortunately the Boss doesn't have a mag like MCN, TBM or ABR to pull in revenue to cover the Forum costs

If you don't want to pay, don't .............but you'll miss a load of stuff and if you decide to leave the site, fine

You have a choice, the decision is yours:thumb

An alternative viewpoint is that subscribers get first dibs on stuff for sale ....

Which is why I suggested before that adverts could default to subscriber only with the seller able to make them public if they want to.
The advert restrictions are a strange and parochial way to operate and when I do subscribe I'm unlikely to change my opinion. Its why ebay are so successful - they let everyone look. It's certainly not because the stuff is cheap or the seller's costs are low.

Truth be told, the £12 subs is to keep out the rif-raf.
This 'ere is an up-market establishment :ChrisKelly

Think of what your missing these are not any old GS's they are cherished :D
and in a lot of cases sold faster than the blink of a pm as advertised here first nowhere else :nenau :thumb2

It's the bigger picture of that you can not see that you are missing :beerjug:

If Maureen is cheap this is cheap as chips, serious stuff :D :thumb and not just BMW's :augie

They take money off you when the items sells which this site does not.

Perhaps one change that would make sense would be allowing non-subscribers to see each 'for sale' thread once the thread is more than a week old so the subscribers get first dibs.
